Through the marking process, the examiners said that the score distribution of all three subjects of literature, English and math was better than last year, although there were still scores below average but accounted for a small percentage. It is expected that the standard score for grade 10 this year will increase slightly.
Literature: Very few scores below average
According to the examiners, through the marking days, the score distribution in all three subjects was "better" than last year. The exam closely followed the assessment guidelines of the 2018 GeneralEducation Program. The differentiation in the exam, the clear answers, and the majority of the students' work demonstrated this, accurately assessing each student's ability.
In the literature subject, the exam requires students to have a solid grasp of literature knowledge, as well as to read, understand, analyze the questions carefully, and identify the discussion issues fully to get to the core of the required questions. According to the examiners, the average score this year ranges from 6 to 7.5 and there have been essays that scored 9, while the lowest score was 2.5.
According to a teacher who participated in grading the literature exam, scores of 8 and above in this subject are also very rare. Scores of 6-7 are the most common.
Explaining the score distribution of the literature subject, an examiner said that the initial question could be confusing and easy to get high scores, but in reality it was not. For example, in the social argument question - 4 points, to do it, students need to clearly present their opinions on the issue of "knowing how to read, knowing how to recognize good values (truth, love, justice...) that are being hidden is a manifestation of maturity". However, most students only met 1 to 2 parts of the exam requirements, which is only presenting opinions on "knowing how to read" or only writing about "maturity".

Math: Rarely get 10
Regarding math, through the marking days, many examiners said that currently, the groups have finished marking round 1 and are moving on to round 2. It is expected that today the marking for math will be completed.
According to the teachers who participated in marking the exam, this year's math results are better than previous years, with a lower percentage of below-average scores and a higher score distribution. For this year's math exam, according to the examiners, students will find it easy, but to get a 10, they must have good thinking, careful presentation and reasoning, so there will not be too many 10s.
This year's math exam is considered to evaluate students' abilities. "Average students will score around 5.5 to 6.5; good students will score around 6.75 to 8; good students will score from 8.3 to 8.8 and excellent students will score from 9 points or higher. The score range is from 5.5 to 7.5. There are 10s but not many, each grading group will only have 1-3 papers with 10s" - a judge revealed.
English: Many tests score 6-7 points
In English, according to the examiner, the marking was completed on June 15. The average score for this year's English exam is better than last year, but there will still not be a "rain" of 10s.
A teacher who participated in grading the exam said that the average score for English this year was higher than last year, but there weren't many high scores, the highest score was around 6-7. Scores of 10 were scattered and the lowest was 1.5 points.
Commenting on this result, teachers said that the test was assessed according to the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program, and at the same time differentiated well. "Because of good differentiation, students with good test-taking skills and thinking skills can achieve high scores. For example, in this year's English test, the vocabulary was not confusing but students still did not get points because their vocabulary application was still weak. Many tests showed that students were still used to the old way of learning, learning vocabulary separately without connecting with grammar" - a teacher participating in marking the test commented.
With the above score distribution of the three subjects, according to many teachers' predictions, this year's grade 10 benchmark scores will fluctuate in each group of schools. A high school teacher analyzed: The benchmark scores will increase slightly in the top 1 schools and remain the same in the top 2 schools compared to last year's grade 10 benchmark scores.
"Based on the score distribution, it can be said that this year's benchmark score will increase. However, this is also the year that the enrollment quota for grade 10 in public schools has increased the most ever, while the number of candidates taking the exam has decreased. Because of these factors, the competition for grade 10 is less stressful. The top schools can increase their benchmark scores compared to last year by 0.5 to 1 point, while the top 2 schools will keep the same," said this teacher.
Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that Ho Chi Minh City will not announce the 10th grade exam scores early. The time to announce the exam scores and standard scores for 10th grade as previously planned is from June 23 to 26.
