The opening ceremony of Vietnam Cultural Week took place at Chaktomuk Hall in Phnom Penh.

Attending the event were Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Phoeurng Sackona, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang, domestic and foreign guests, along with many people in the capital and overseas Vietnamese.

The event was held on the banks of the Four-Faced River, near the Royal Palace and cultural and historical buildings.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Cultural Week in Cambodia 2024, taking place from May 21-25, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong stated that, implementing the agreement of the two countries' senior leaders and the Cultural Cooperation Plan between Vietnam and Cambodia for the period 2023-2027, the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts regularly coordinate to organize cultural exchange programs, contributing to strengthening neighborly friendship and people-to-people exchange.

In 2024, the two sides will jointly organize the Vietnam Cultural Week in Cambodia in the capital Phnom Penh, the city that embodies the traditional cultural values ​​of Cambodia, and Banteay Meanchey province, which preserves many unique heritage values ​​of Cambodia.

The opening performance of Vietnamese artists made a strong impression on the audience.

“Through this event, Vietnam wishes to introduce to the Cambodian people and international friends the beauty of Vietnamese culture through performances of traditional Vietnamese singing, dancing and music, including some art forms that have been recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.”

According to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, after more than half a century of establishing diplomatic relations, the cooperative relationship in many fields between Vietnam and Cambodia is increasingly developing well. Vietnam is pleased with the outstanding achievements in economy, culture and society that Cambodia has achieved. This contributes to promoting the development of cultural exchange between the two countries.

After 57 years of establishing diplomatic relations, Cambodia and Vietnam have always maintained a good relationship based on the spirit of good neighborliness, long-term solidarity and mutual understanding. The recent visit of Prime Minister Hun Manet to Vietnam is a clear sign that the leaders of both countries are committed to strengthening and expanding cooperation in all areas and at all levels.

The beauty of Vietnam's land and people comes to international friends through performances.

The head of the Ministry of Culture and Arts of the country of pagodas shared that the Cambodian Government is always aware that culture, as the soul and national identity, is an endless resource, the foundation for strengthening love, solidarity and promoting the world's recognition of ancient civilizations, as well as a resource for sustainable economic development.

In addition to income, through tourism and the creative economy, Cambodia has actively participated in regional and international mechanisms to strengthen solidarity and peace, with culture as a guiding tool. Regional mechanisms within the framework of ASEAN, ASEAN+, AMCA, SOMCA or the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) are activities that contribute to strengthening dialogue and cooperation for development, with culture playing a central role.

The audience enjoyed a night of special art performances from two close neighboring countries, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Minister Phoeurng Sackona affirmed that the 19th Cultural Week between the two countries today not only shows the joint efforts of both sides, but is also an event that helps people of the two countries have more and more opportunities to learn about each other's cultures, contributing to strengthening friendship and neighborly cooperation.

The Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts will continue to support and enhance the organization of these joint activities, considering them as model events that both countries can implement in cooperation with other countries to introduce the culture, art, country and people of each country.
