According to the Quick Report of the Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, in the early morning of May 10, in the districts of Ham Yen, Yen Son, and Tuyen Quang city, there were showers and thunderstorms, some places had heavy to very heavy rain such as: Hung Duc commune 140mm, Thai Hoa 120mm, Bang Coc 109.6mm, Thanh Long 107.8mm (Ham Yen); Lang Quan commune 79mm, Hoang Khai 66.3mm, Phuc Ninh 53.2mm (Yen Son)... due to the impact of heavy rain and thunderstorms, it caused damage to houses and agricultural production, affecting the lives of people in some areas in the province.
In Ham Yen district, 18 houses collapsed (15 houses in Thai Hoa commune, 1 house in Thanh Long commune, 2 houses in Yen Phu commune), of which 2 houses collapsed completely and many houses had their roofs blown off; Yen Son district had 23 houses with their roofs blown off; in Tuyen Quang city, 1 house had a tree fall on it.

Damage to agriculture and forestry, nearly 20 hectares of corn fell, of which Tuyen Quang city had 12 hectares, Ham Yen 7.35 hectares, Yen Son 0.5 hectares, nearly 25 hectares of acacia trees fell. Some points on National Highway 2 and streets in Tuyen Quang city had fallen trees, localized flooding. Up to now, the route has been cleared to ensure traffic.
Urgent remedy
Immediately after the heavy rains, the People's Committees of the affected districts directed specialized units to support people in cleaning up their houses; collecting property, re-roofing houses for affected households, and urgently repairing landslides on traffic routes. At the same time, specialized staff were assigned to continue monitoring weather developments, be ready to deploy response measures, and guide people to proactively implement preventive measures, ensuring absolute safety for people's property and lives.

In Duc Ninh commune, the work of overcoming the consequences of this morning's storm is being urgently carried out by households. Comrade Hoang Duc Anh, Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, said that due to heavy rain, the whole commune had 81 houses with their roofs blown off, of which 4 houses completely collapsed; 17 hectares of corn, 4 hectares of melons; 21.6 hectares of acacia trees were broken, affecting people's lives. The commune leaders came to directly inspect and directed the villages to quickly help households overcome the consequences of clearing fallen trees, houses with their roofs blown off, moving people and belongings, and handling landslides for families. At the same time, they propagated and mobilized households with houses next to the slopes, near areas where landslides are likely to occur, to move to a safe place.
By the afternoon of May 10, the households whose roofs were blown off had basically stabilized their lives, and households at risk of being unsafe at the foot of the slopes and where the soil structure is poor had moved to a safe place. As for the rice and color crop areas, the people will proceed to repair them as the water recedes to reduce the damage caused by the flood.
The family of Mr. Pham Minh Hai, Gao Dinh village, Duc Ninh commune, had hundreds of cubic meters of mud and soil washed down, burying the outbuildings and most of the back of the house, causing damage to household items. Mr. Hai said that immediately after the mud and soil from the embankment behind the house poured into the house, he mobilized family members and asked his neighbors to come and help clean up the mud and collect their belongings to stabilize their lives.

Along National Highway 2, the section through Thai Hoa commune, workers of Road Joint Stock Company 232 are urgently trimming fallen trees on the road, in order to reduce traffic congestion for people and vehicles. Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Pham, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Road Joint Stock Company 232, said that the company is currently in charge of managing, maintaining and repairing National Highway 2 through Ham Yen district. Immediately after receiving reports of fallen trees causing local congestion at some points in the area, the company mobilized 100% of its workers to be present at the points to cut, trim and clear the fallen trees, and at the same time coordinate with the Traffic Police Department and the Provincial Police to direct traffic and warn of areas with deep flooding. Up to now, National Highway 2 connecting Tuyen Quang province and Ha Giang province, the section through Ham Yen district has been cleared.
The Fibro cement roofed house of Mr. Nguyen Viet Chien, Tan Hoa village, Thai Hoa commune was blown away by the wind. Immediately after the rain and wind stopped, the family was supported by the militia and villagers to evacuate all people and property to a safe place.

As soon as the storm occurred, the leaders of Ham Yen District People's Committee directly went to the communes that suffered heavy damage, directing local authorities to promptly overcome the consequences, focusing on ensuring people's lives, urgently evacuating people in dangerous areas near rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas that had been forecasted.
Comrade Do Van Hoa, Vice Chairman of Ham Yen District People's Committee said that because the weather is still complicated, the district has directed communes with households in areas at risk of landslides and houses with roofs blown off to urgently evacuate and take shelter in temporary safe places, and resolutely not let people stay in high-risk areas. Communes urgently review areas at high risk of flash floods, landslides, riverbank and stream erosion, low-lying areas that often experience flooding, and deploy grassroots shock forces to prepare response plans.
The Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue also warned that the weather is very complicated, the risk of thunderstorms with lightning can still occur in many localities, people need to closely monitor weather forecasts; proactively take response measures to minimize possible damage.
