The fear of “AI” in artistic creation

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used by many people in various aspects of their activities and lives. In the field of artistic creation, the “AIization” trend has also begun to emerge, and necessary warnings are needed.

Artist PT ( Da Nang City) said he "asked ChatGPT to draw a portrait of himself from a photo. After only 5 seconds, a painting with sharp lines appeared, showing the appearance of a thoughtful person. "It's hard to imagine that artificial intelligence has now reached this level. If we don't soon redefine the art story, it will be very difficult for us to resist the "AI" trend among young people," PT confided.

PT's thoughts are also the thoughts of many people, especially young people who are entering the art path. Digital technology with AI software is making them bewildered, when they realize that a unique color photo that is spreading on social networks is actually created by AI. Even some recent paintings by many young people, using colors and brushes directly, also "imitate ideas" from an AI sketch. "The obsession with artistic thinking in many people is real, because AI can create many results from data of many predecessors, including works from great artists, making the openness of artistic creative ideas through AI very wide", painter Dang Mau Tuu (Hue City) shared.

The influence of AI does not stop at paintings. In video creation, AI can create many situations and short film products from just a few photos and information syntax. With poetry, the situation can also easily lead to certain worries, when some young people start to have the habit of expressing their personal thoughts with poems and texts quoted from AI. When those materials become public and popular, it will be very easy for others to copy, use and accidentally include them in their own creations. All of this creates a constant flow of "digital" data, making it more difficult to distinguish between truth and falsehood in artistic creation.

The AI-generated photo of the event of the Liberation Army tanks entering the Independence Palace has been pointed out by experts with inaccuracies.

Recently, some historical researchers have had to raise the alarm about the "AIization" of historical data into illustrative images. Specifically, the photo of the South Vietnam Liberation Army tank entering the Independence Palace on April 30, 1975, when processed by AI into a painting, changed many details, such as the soldiers' shoes and guns, and worryingly, some media units have used these images as illustrations. With such "ease", researchers fear that accurate images will gradually be replaced by images from AI, because the colors and lines are more vivid and the consequence is that historical truth will be easily confused and incorrect, especially for future generations. Experts warn that we need to be very careful with the "AIization" trend.

“What can help distinguish our creative thinking from artificial intelligence is emotion. AI can, through its huge amount of data, describe all the developments and information of a problem like a real person; but it cannot feel the pain of our foot hitting the edge of the table. Therefore, artistic creation to affirm its value must be associated with real human emotions and this is a very important requirement for young authors who are familiar with artificial intelligence but lack experience and practical life,” artist PT affirmed.

Sharing this view, artist Dang Mau Tuu believes that, for today's youth, the use of AI in study and daily life is natural, but caution is needed when applying AI to creative thinking. In a field that requires creativity, one cannot be attracted by the quality of AI applications and "easily compromise" with the ideas and compositional structures that AI proposes. "Focus on your emotions, use emotions, ideas related to your true feelings, when composing, associating... Maybe at first, you will find it difficult, but if you persevere and are consistent with that, you will shape your independent way of thinking, and only then will you be able to create the fruits of your own labor," artist Dang Mau Tuu analyzed.

Obviously, in today's rhythm of life, the impact of digital life on the activities of each individual and even groups is inevitable. In the field of art, such impacts are even more likely to occur, especially when each person is not confident and cannot find new ideas for themselves. Therefore, life experiences and genuine emotions of each person are truly valuable materials, the foundation for building the creative works of art of the authors.
