The 11th Central Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee passed Resolution No. 60, agreeing on the policy of merging Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan provinces, named Khanh Hoa province. The administrative and political center of the new province will be located in Nha Trang city. Khanh Hoa is currently leading the country in high-tech marine farming, possessing many strategic bays such as Van Phong, Nha Trang and Cam Ranh. The province aims to achieve a turnover of 1 billion USD from the marine economy by 2025. In addition, the locality also has many high-tech agricultural areas with key export items such as mango, jackfruit and durian.

Meanwhile, Ninh Thuan is considered one of the leading localities in the country in developing renewable energy, with a dry climate, suitable for developing wind power, solar power as well as green agriculture such as growing grapes, apples, and asparagus.

According to statistics by the end of 2024, Ninh Thuan has 11 wind power plants in commercial operation with a total capacity of 667 MW, 37 solar power projects licensed for investment, of which 34 projects have generated electricity, reaching a total capacity of 2,376 MW. The province has also planned 5 offshore wind power areas with a potential capacity of over 5,000 MW.

It is expected that by 2030, Ninh Thuan's total renewable energy capacity will reach about 26,500 MW, contributing about 16% of the province's GRDP, consolidating its position as the "clean energy capital" of the country.

On the Khanh Hoa side, there are currently 9 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 580.6 MWp put into operation. The province is proposing to add 13 new energy projects to the adjusted Power Plan VIII, including onshore and nearshore wind power projects, LNG power, household waste power and pumped storage hydropower projects.

Recently, leaders of Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan provinces had a working session in Nha Trang City to agree on key contents of the merger project. The Standing Committees of the two provinces reached a high consensus on the plan to arrange administrative units at the provincial and communal levels and build a streamlined, effective and efficient government organization model.

At the meeting, Party Central Committee member and Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Secretary Nghiem Xuan Thanh emphasized that the important task ahead is to plan a clear development strategy for the province after the merger. Accordingly, three strategic breakthroughs were identified, including developing high-tech industry, quality marine tourism and clean energy centers. These are areas that are not only suitable for the available natural potential, but also meet the requirements of restructuring the national economy in the new context.

With clear orientation, high political determination and consensus from all levels and sectors, Khanh Hoa is expected to become a new growth pole of the South Central Coast region, contributing significantly to the country's sustainable development goals.
