On the morning of November 15, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep attended the ceremony and installed the plaque of Phu Sa Pumping Station, a key project to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Agriculture and Environment sector.

The project was decided to be invested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), and started on November 10, 2023. By November 5, 2025, the project had completed all items, meeting the requirements on quality, technique and progress, and was eligible for acceptance and put into use.

With an investment cost of about 350 billion VND, Phu Sa Pumping Station includes 6 vertical submersible pumps, total design flow of 12m³/s, combined with an irrigation canal system taking water from the Red River, will ensure stable irrigation for 4,143 hectares of agricultural land, support aquaculture, livestock farming and contribute to ensuring production in the face of increasingly extreme natural disasters.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep, the new pumping station helps reduce dependence on the Red River water level during the winter-spring crop, supporting Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant in regulating and saving a large amount of water for many other fields.

The highlight of the project is the water intake design at 0m elevation, helping the pumping station operate stably even when the Red River water level drops to -0.5m below sea level.

He said that this is a model that needs to be replicated because modern submersible pump technology can operate when the water level is very low. In addition, the entire headquarter area is designed as an architectural highlight, not just a traditional irrigation project.

In order for the project to be most effective in the coming time, the Deputy Minister requested that the agencies under the Ministry continue to closely coordinate with departments, branches, and management units in handing over, exploiting, and operating the project in accordance with regulations.

Besides, it is not only for irrigation but also serves the larger goals of Hanoi such as improving the water environment, regulating water resources for daily life, production and future projects along the Red River.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep praised the investor and contractors for completing the project on schedule, ensuring quality and aesthetics.

Chairman of Tich River Irrigation One Member Co., Ltd. Le Hong Quang affirmed that the project will be operated safely and effectively; a qualified technical team will be arranged; maintenance and repair work will be strictly carried out; and good coordination will be maintained in water resource management and natural disaster prevention.
