Groundbreaking ceremony of Cat Ba Central Bay Tourism and Commercial Service Area Project

(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the afternoon of August 16, in Cat Hai island district, Phu Quoc Civil Construction Company Limited held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cat Ba Central Bay Tourism and Commercial Service Area Project.

Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the City People's Council Pham Van Lap, members of the Standing Committee, Vice Chairmen of the City People's Committee; leaders of departments, branches, and localities.

Commencement of Cat Ba Central Bay Tourism and Commercial Service Area Project.

The project covers an area of nearly 50 hectares and the total investment for infrastructure alone is over 2,100 billion VND. The project is expected to contribute to diversifying tourism products, supporting services, entertainment services, commercial centers, shopping areas, conferences, etc. to attract tourists to Cat Ba archipelago.

Speaking at the Project Groundbreaking Ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam emphasized that Hai Phong has a strategic position in the Northeastern economic region and the whole country, is an important traffic hub, and is one of the major sea tourism centers with a system of tourist destinations, historical sites and famous landscapes such as Do Son and Cat Ba archipelago. Hai Phong aims to develop Cat Ba tourism in the direction of ensuring harmony with the natural landscape, exploiting the landscape of space, water surface, and natural mountains on the principle of minimizing intervention in the natural terrain, aiming to build Cat Ba into a smart and ecological tourist island.

The Vice Chairman said that the number of visitors to the island is increasing every year, contributing to the development of the local economy. Specifically, in 2022, Cat Ba tourism will welcome and serve about 2.3 million visitors; in 2023, it will welcome and serve more than 3 million visitors. In particular, on September 16, 2023, the Cat Ba archipelago with a system of about 358 large and small limestone islands was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage, a place with a diverse marine ecosystem and unique terrain, one of the city's tourist attractions.

However, Cat Ba tourism is still seasonal, lacking high-end tourism products, facilities and service conditions do not meet the needs of tourists with high spending ability, there are no entertainment areas to serve and attract tourists to Cat Ba tourism. Many new, modern projects have been invested in construction, but in reality, they still do not meet the needs, the infrastructure is still lacking, there is a lack of worthy projects, especially high-end accommodation facilities, making Cat Ba archipelago tourism unable to develop to its full potential.

To promote investment attraction in developing infrastructure and facilities for tourism, focusing on high-class resorts, entertainment, hotels, restaurants meeting national and international standards, many resort real estate projects in Cat Ba are being implemented to change the face of tourism on the island district, including the Cat Ba Central Bay Tourism and Commercial Service Area Project.

The Cat Ba Central Bay Tourism and Commercial Service Area Project dedicates more than 60% of its area to developing public facilities. This is considered one of Vietnam's pioneering tourism projects towards zero carbon emissions and dedicating a lot of space to the community. After the first Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car line was completed, Sun Group Corporation continued to build a new Phu Long - Cat Ba cable car line, creating a cable car system connecting directly from Cat Hai island to the center of Cat Ba town. People and tourists will easily travel from Hai Phong city to the center of Cat Ba island by cable car quickly, conveniently and minimizing emissions to the environment. In addition, the Project Area also includes a large-scale inland waterway wharf, helping visitors to easily access by sea from Hai Phong city or Cat Hai cable car station./.
