In the mountainous region of Bac Kan , each festival, folk song or ancient stilt house contains a part of the cultural soul of the ethnic minority community. If these values are not preserved and promoted, they will gradually fade away over time. In 2023, Na Tuong (Xuan Duong commune, Na Ri district) and Khau Dang (Boc Bo commune, Pac Nam district) were selected to implement the project of preserving traditional cultural villages and hamlets associated with tourism development. This is an opportunity for people in the two villages to preserve and promote unique cultural values.
Up to now, Na Tuong village has surveyed and selected 09 households that meet the conditions to participate, such as having traditional stilt houses, keeping the weaving profession and preserving typical items, in order to receive investment and develop community tourism . The unique cultural features of the Nung ethnic group such as traditional wine making, weaving and sewing costumes, sli singing, luon singing, folk games, etc. will be restored, maintained, and become part of the tourist experience.
In Khau Dang village, Project 6 has supported a number of homestay service businesses to concrete the floor under the house, install wifi, and replace the electrical system. Old wooden stilt houses have been restored to preserve the original architecture. Intangible cultural values of the San Chi people such as the coming-of-age ceremony, mask dance, folk songs, linen weaving, etc. have been gradually restored, taught, and linked to tourism development.
Ms. Hoang Thi Mong, Secretary of the Khau Dang Village Party Cell, said: “Implementing Project 6, the Khau Dang community tourism village gate has been built, check-in points and signs have been installed in many locations. Many households have been supported with equipment and trained in tourism skills. People are very excited because from preserving culture, they can now do tourism to create more income.”
Project 6 - "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" under the National Target Program on socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021 - 2030 is being implemented in localities in the province. The total capital plan for implementation in phase I: From 2021 to 2025 is more than 71.6 billion VND, of which the allocated capital is 34.8 billion VND; in 2025, the allocation is currently being implemented.
In addition to investing in preserving the two typical traditional villages mentioned above, in the period of 2021-2025, Project 6 will carry out the contents of preserving and promoting heritage values in localities such as: Restoring and embellishing one special national relic, a valuable national relic; preventing the degradation of two typical relics; developing seven tourist destinations in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; organizing eight classes to teach intangible culture; maintaining nine folk culture clubs, two models of protecting and promoting traditional culture, 27 traditional art troupes; publishing one traditional cultural publication to distribute to the community...

According to the assessment of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, integrating cultural preservation with tourism development helps the community not only preserve its identity but also earn more revenue from tourism services, traditional crafts, and typical products. Many localities have begun to form indigenous cultural tourism models, using culture as the foundation for community economic development.
Each activity of Project 6 aims at a "dual" goal: Heritage preservation and livelihood creation. With that perspective, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is proposing to expand Project 6 to all 35 communes in the area after the merger in the period 2026-2030. The focus is on training human resources for culture and tourism, heritage restoration, developing experiential tourism models and promoting communication and promoting cultural values to the public./.
