On December 1, at a regular press conference, a representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology informed about the progress of the implementation of the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the 7th State Prize for Science and Technology.
These are the most noble awards of the Party and State for scientists with exceptionally outstanding scientific and technological works and clusters of works, of very high scientific value, bringing great and long-term effectiveness to social life; making important contributions to the socio- economic development, national defense and security and the science and technology career of the country.
The awards ceremony is held every five years to recognize and honor the most outstanding contributions of Vietnamese scientific intellectuals.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology, from 1996 to present, the State has organized 6 rounds of consideration and awarding of the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Science and Technology.
Of which, the first phase recorded 33 works and clusters of works awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize. The second phase had a total of 92 works awarded, including 21 Ho Chi Minh Prizes and 71 State Prizes. The third phase awarded 55 works, including 13 Ho Chi Minh Prizes and 42 State Prizes.
Phase 4 awarded 32 works, including 12 Ho Chi Minh Awards and 20 State Awards. Phase 5 recognized 16 works, including 9 Ho Chi Minh Awards and 7 State Awards.
In the most recent period - period 6, 29 works were awarded, including 12 Ho Chi Minh Awards and 17 State Awards (not including works and clusters of works in the field of state secrets).

The policy of developing intellectuals and honoring scientific achievements has always been highly valued by the Party and the State. Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo affirms the pioneering role of scientific and technological intellectuals in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.
The Law on Science, Technology and Innovation 2025, recently passed by the National Assembly, creates a favorable legal corridor to promote research, transfer and application of scientific and technological results, while encouraging creativity. In that context, recognizing and honoring scientific works has great motivational significance, contributing to encouraging intellectuals to continue to contribute.
In that context, the work of honoring outstanding contributions through the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Science and Technology is of great significance, both to show gratitude for past contributions and to inspire innovation for the future.
Regarding the 7th Award, the Ministry of Science and Technology said that the progress of the awarding process at all levels has been clearly defined. The grassroots council will organize the awarding process from December 1, 2025 and complete it before December 31, 2025. Next, the Ministerial Council will complete the awarding process before April 15, 2026.
Regarding the receipt of State-level award dossiers, the Ministry of Science and Technology will receive them until 5:00 p.m. on May 8, 2026 for regular dossiers and until 5:00 p.m. on May 15, 2026 for confidential dossiers. The selection work of the State-level Council will be deployed from June 2026 and completed in September 2026.
The progress of the awarding process at the State-level specialized council and the State-level council has also been determined. Accordingly, the State-level specialized council will complete the awarding process no later than August 30, 2026. The State-level council will complete the awarding process in September 2026 and is expected to submit the results to the Prime Minister by the end of November 2026.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said the 7th Ho Chi Minh Prize and State Prize for Science and Technology award ceremony is expected to be held on September 2, 2027 - a special occasion on the occasion of the National Day, to honor the contributions of scientists to the cause of national development.
In preparation for the 7th awarding round, the Ministry of Science and Technology has proactively developed a plan and organized guidance activities, including two workshops (in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi) demonstrating the sense of responsibility and interest of agencies and organizations in the two Awards and the 7th awarding round; this is an important basis for the Ministry of Science and Technology to complete the implementation plan in the coming time./.
