Presenting the Tran Van Giau Science Award to two lecturers of An Giang University

On the morning of September 29, at An Giang University (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the Tran Van Giau Science Award Committee held an award ceremony for the work "Buu Son Ky Huong Religion and the Four Graces of Buddhism in the Southwest Region" co-edited by Associate Professor, Dr. Vo Van Thang - former Rector of An Giang University and Dr. Nguyen Trung Hieu - lecturer of the Faculty of Tourism and Culture - Arts.

The work was published by Ho Chi Minh City National University Publishing House, 673 pages thick. In the research work, the authors introduced for the first time many documents on the history of the formation of Buu Son Ky Huong Religion and Tu An Buddhism in the Southwest region.

The work analyzed the system of organization of activities, worship characteristics, system of rituals and offerings of each religion; clarified the influence of the Buu Son Ky Huong and Tu An Dao Phat religions on the spiritual and material life of believers and made some predictions about the activities of the community of believers in the future.

According to the assessment of the Tran Van Giau Award Committee, the work is a meticulous and serious research work; providing many documents of high reference value and of important significance for the study of cultural beliefs, religious studies, religious philosophy, religion in the Mekong Delta region... In addition, the monograph also contributes an important source of research documents for state management agencies on religion in the South in particular and the whole country in general.

At the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Vo Van Thang, former Rector of An Giang University, emphasized: The Tran Van Giau Science Award has "illuminated the path of academia", creating a scientific forum of special significance, so that future generations of researchers have the opportunity to contribute, be encouraged and honored. The work "Buu Son Ky Huong and the Four Graces of the Southwest Region" is a topic that he has cherished and pursued for many years, starting with the work "The Four Graces of Buddhism" with the desire to clarify the historical, ideological and spiritual values ​​that have shaped an important part of culture, at the same time to preserve and promote the values ​​and assets that bear the identity of the Southern region.

Associate Professor, Doctor Vo Van Thang affirmed: Buu Son Ky Huong and Tu An Hieu Nghia are not only religions and beliefs but also socio-cultural phenomena that have a profound influence on the minds of the residents of the Southwest. The research project aims to recreate a multi-dimensional picture of the formation and development process with philosophies of life, worldviews, especially the spirit of patriotism, solidarity, and attachment to the community of the followers of Buu Son Ky Huong and Tu An Hieu Nghia in the turbulent historical flow of the Southwest region.

The Tran Van Giau Science Award was established in 2002 based on the wishes of the late Professor and People's Teacher Tran Van Giau. The award takes place annually and is given to research works on history and history of ideology in the Southern region, the South Central region and Ho Chi Minh City. The work "Buu Son Ky Huong Religion and the Four Graces of Buddhism in the Southwest region" is the first research work on history and ideology to be honored by the Tran Van Giau Science Award Committee.
