Make use of local ingredients

After listening to the owner of the establishment briefly introduce several incense boxes made from some native plants, the people present that day conveniently bought a few dozen clean incense boxes of local products to support the owner starting a business in the countryside of Ham Liem commune.

Talking to us, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, owner of Le Duyen clean incense facility shared: “Previously, after learning from books, newspapers, and the internet, I realized that some native plants can be used to make clean incense, with a distinctive aroma, and are environmentally friendly. So I learned how to process it, equipped myself with a manual grinder, and started a business from what my family had available and locally available materials. Initially, I went to Mr. Nguyen Van Duc's ginger medicinal plant farm in Ham Thuan Bac commune, more than 10 km from where I live, ordered ginger roots, ground them there, and brought them back to process completely by hand, without using toxic by-products. The clean incense products with a light ginger aroma were purchased by people in the village and commune to support, and introduced to more customers in some neighboring places.”

Gradually, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le ordered and bought some other materials such as: cuckoo roots in Ke Ga coastal area, Tan Thanh commune, agarwood bark grown by people in Khanh Hoa mountainous area, cinnamon bark in Dak Lak to process, diversify products, and introduce to customers. “The natural roots and barks are gathered by the family, sliced thinly, put in a pan to roast lightly on the stove, let cool, then continue to pour into a blender, sieve evenly, and add Litsea tree glue to create adhesive; then rotate and roll the incense. Family members dry it for about 1 sunny day. In the final step, the incense is packaged to deliver to customers who order locally and far away”, Ms. Le confided. Biological incense from natural trees is very flammable. The continuous burning of each incense stick lasts an average of 80 - 90 minutes without going out in the middle. The product has the characteristics of no toxic substances, no fragrance, no fire-retardant and no colorant, so it is favored by customers everywhere. The price is also not too expensive, 50,000 VND/large incense bag.

Clean incense "two in one"

The incense when burned has a very pleasant scent, especially there are no mosquitoes during the time the incense smoke spreads. Local people call this “two in one” incense because it can be lit on the altar and also has the effect of repelling mosquitoes. This “two in one” biological incense is favored by people in many places because it has contributed to protecting the environment without causing toxicity, protecting the health of users, and preventing dengue fever caused by mosquito bites.

Currently, clean incense from Le Duyen facility is consumed in Ham Liem, Ham Thuan, Ham Thuan Bac communes, Phan Thiet ward, Phu Quy special zone, and some places in Duc Linh. Ms. Nguyen Thi Le is also promoting contact with Co.op Mart Phan Thiet Supermarket to supply clean incense from Le Duyen to this supermarket.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung - Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Science and Technology Application said: "Biological incense from cuckoo roots, agarwood bark, and cinnamon takes advantage of natural resources in the locality and neighboring provinces; helping to save production costs, increase income as well as create stable jobs for families. The product is safe, environmentally friendly, and protects the health of consumers. The facility needs support in investing capital to equip machinery, expand production, consumption markets, and create more jobs for young workers in Ham Liem commune."
