Recently, due to the situation of continuously increasing domestic and international gold prices, illegal gold mining has become more and more complicated. In particular, the use of cyanide in the gold mining and processing process not only poses a potential danger to those directly involved, but also leaves serious consequences for the community and negatively impacts the surrounding environment.

Through the work of grasping the situation, on April 14, 2025, the Economic Police Department of Dak Lak Provincial Police deployed two working groups to destroy two illegal gold mining and gold processing sites of a group of 14 people, initiated by Hoang Dinh Phuong, born in 1985, residing in village 14, Ea Knop town, Ea Kar district, Dak Lak province. Through the work, the subjects confessed that they did not have a mineral exploitation license issued by a competent State agency.

The investigation results determined that Ngo Van Truc, residing in Hamlet 18, Hai Nam Commune, Hai Hau District, Nam Dinh Province, was the person who purchased chemicals for processing and gold mining, especially cyanide. This is a very strong poison, quickly absorbed through the digestive tract, mucous membranes, and respiratory tract, then quickly distributed into the body and causing poisoning; only a very small amount can cause death .

Evidence seized at the scene included many modified machines and vehicles, 345 sacks containing ore, about 49m3 of unprocessed soil and rock, 10m3 of soil processed into fine powder, and about 25kg of various chemicals used for illegal gold mining and processing, including 250g of cyanide in pellet form.

Currently, the Dak Lak Provincial Police Investigation Agency is continuing to investigate and expand the case, clarifying the roles and illegal acts of other related subjects to strictly handle them before the law.
