According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, significant positive results have been achieved in the implementation of tasks to combat IUU fishing in recent times.
The management of the fishing fleet continues to be tightened. 100% of fishing vessels nationwide have been registered and updated on the national fisheries database system. Monitoring of fishing vessels through the VMS system, control of vessels entering and leaving ports, and traceability of seafood are gradually becoming more systematic.
However, some issues still need to be addressed soon, such as: discrepancies in the number of fishing vessels arriving at and departing from ports in some localities; the handling of administrative violations related to VMS disconnection and exceeding permitted fishing boundaries is not yet thorough; and the responsibility of some organizations and individuals in performing their duties is not high enough…
In Dong Thap province, the locality has been seriously implementing the central government's directives on combating IUU fishing. The province has strengthened the management of the fishing fleet, strictly controlled fishing activities, and coordinated with functional forces in monitoring and handling violations.
