Two spaces - one strategic tourism development axis
In recent years, Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang are two localities with strong tourism development. In 2024, Tuyen Quang attracted over 2.7 million visitors, tourism revenue reached 3,600 billion VND; tourism introduction and promotion activities are increasingly professional and effective, many new tourism products are put into operation, such as: Forest - waterfall and cave experience tourism in Chiem Hoa, Na Hang, Lam Binh; trekking Hong Mountain in Tan Trao (Son Duong) or seasonal agricultural tourism in Hong Thai (Na Hang), Ham Yen; large cruise on Na Hang - Lam Binh hydroelectric lake. In particular, Thanh Tuyen Festival was granted a copyright certificate of the trademark "Thanh Tuyen FESTIVAL" by the Department of Intellectual Property and set 3 times the Vietnam Guinness record for "Mid-Autumn Festival with the largest number of lantern models in Vietnam"; "The largest Mid-Autumn Festival tray in Vietnam" and "The largest pair of lanterns in Vietnam".

In the past five years, Ha Giang has been continuously ranked among the most beautiful destinations in Asia and the world, as "Asia's Leading Cultural Destination", and as the top destination on search engines for new tourist destinations. In 2024, Ha Giang attracted over 3.2 million visitors with tourism revenue reaching VND8,100 billion. The whole province has 24 tours, intra-provincial and inter-regional routes exploited; 16 recognized community cultural tourism villages. Cultural tourism products are extremely diverse with 32 national intangible cultural heritages, along with extremely attractive relics, festivals, and folk games.
In the new multidimensional development space, tourism has emerged with special potential and advantages. The geographical connection, diversity of resources and the depth of the cultural identity of ethnic minorities are the foundation for the new province to form a unique and distinct tourism ecosystem with strong competitiveness in the region and the country. Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang are two provinces with many similarities but also differences to perfectly complement each other in the tourism sector. While Tuyen Quang stands out with its historical value, the system of relics associated with the strong revolutionary base of Tan Trao, the world-famous Thanh Tuyen Festival and the diverse Na Hang - Lam Binh ecosystem, Ha Giang is the "bright spot" of landscape tourism, experience with Dong Van Stone Plateau, Lung Cu National Flagpole, majestic Ma Pi Leng Pass and terraced fields floating in the clouds. The new province will create a strategic development axis, forming a continuous tourism route, connecting culture, history to nature, discovery, from the lowland midlands of Tuyen Quang to the highland border area of Ha Giang. This development axis helps diversify products, prolong the length of stay and increase the consumption value of tourists, promoting in-depth and sustainable tourism development.

Nearly 1.9 million people of nearly 30 ethnic groups after the province's merger created a unique and distinctive new cultural symphony in the Northeast region. Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang are long-standing residences of the Mong, Dao, Tay, Nung, Lo Lo, Pa Then, Cao Lan ethnic groups... Each ethnic group has its own distinct cultural features, vividly reflecting the life, spiritual beliefs and depth of values of each ethnic group. In particular, if the Mong people in Ha Giang still preserve intact the cultural values of house architecture, costumes, cuisine, language, beliefs, customs, traditional crafts... then the Tay people in Tuyen Quang are proud to be one of 11 localities that preserve and promote well the value of the intangible cultural heritage representing humanity for the Then practice of the Tay, Nung, Thai people. The Dao people in Ha Giang preserve the Cap Sac ceremony with its profound philosophical meaning about life, while the Cao Lan people in Tuyen Quang preserve their gentle and graceful dances. The ethnic community on the Dong Van stone plateau is proud to have a legendary Phong Luu Khau Vai Market with profound humanistic values, a market in a border area with diverse cultural colors, and a grand and large-scale Thanh Tuyen Festival, where the spirit and creativity of the people shine. More specifically, Tuyen Quang is the "resistance capital", where there is the Hong Thai communal house and the Tan Trao banyan tree, associated with an important period of the history of the Vietnamese revolution. Ha Giang is a "later" province in the war to protect the northern border, where there is a heroic Vi Xuyen front.

On the basis of history, geography, people and long-standing heritage, the merger of administrative units opens up a great opportunity to reshape the cultural space, where identities are not dissolved, but resonate and complement each other to create a diverse, powerful, and promising whole, where the calm, profound culture of the midlands and the intense, primitive spirit of the border highlands blend, connect, create and spread. With the motto "Using culture to develop tourism, developing tourism to preserve culture", the diverse culture of the new Tuyen Quang province will create a strong "push" for tourism to continue to break through with its own unique values and brands.
Aspiration to reach new heights
After the merger, the new Tuyen Quang province has an area of over 13,795 km2, reaching 172% of the standard. The name Tuyen Quang is closely associated with the formation and development of the nation, has a cultural tradition, revolutionary history and is representative and identifiable, including the traditional history and culture of Ha Giang.
Choosing Tuyen Quang city, a type II urban area and moving towards achieving type I standards as the administrative center helps inherit the entire existing infrastructure network, from the headquarters of the Party, government, Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations to the public service system, helping to save on new construction investment, reserving resources for development investment. The administrative location of the new province is only 130 km from Hanoi, combined with the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway, the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway which is being completed, along with National Highways 2, 2C, 37 to form a continuous, interconnected traffic corridor, opening up domestic and export trade through Thanh Thuy International Border Gate. On the basis of that "backbone" traffic, the new province will become a strategic logistics link, shortening time, reducing transportation costs, attracting large enterprises to invest in agricultural and forestry processing, renewable energy, eco-tourism, border trade, and at the same time creating a large consumer market.

Along with that, the new administrative apparatus is restructured to be compact, the quality of the staff is improved, the quality of service to people and businesses is increased, administrative procedures are digitized, online public services are unified, transparent and fast. The merger also allows the formation of an inter-regional value chain from the urban centers of Tuyen Quang, Son Duong, Bac Quang to develop supporting industries and modern education and health services; the ecological axis of Na Hang and Lam Binh hydroelectric lakes connects Dong Van stone plateau into unique geological tourism products and cultural heritages; high-quality agricultural specialized areas according to the value chain, creating sustainable livelihoods for people. Developing the border belt, improving defense capabilities, ensuring national defense and security, responding to natural disasters, maintaining social order.
In 2024, Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces both achieved many outstanding results in socio-economic development; in which, the total state budget revenue of the two provinces reached over 6,354 billion VND; total retail sales of goods and service revenue reached over 54.5 trillion VND; attracted nearly 6 million tourists, with 137 communes meeting New Rural standards. The fields of culture, education, health, poverty reduction and social security were all given attention, and the quality of people's lives were constantly improved. This achievement is a solid foundation, creating momentum for the new province to continue to develop. After the merger, the concentration of financial resources will also help the province have more conditions to invest in building synchronous and modern infrastructure, promoting sustainable socio-economic development.
With a synchronous infrastructure system, an expanding market, a streamlined apparatus, a rich cultural identity and a key trading position, Tuyen Quang province after the merger has a great opportunity to become a new growth pole of the Northern mountainous region, actively contributing to the country's goal of rapid and sustainable development.
