On the evening of October 1, at the Asian Swimming Championship held in Ahmedabad (India), Nguyen Huy Hoang excellently won the men's 800m freestyle event, successfully completing the performance target for himself and the Vietnamese swimming team at this tournament.

Competing with strong opponents such as Sibirtsev Ilya (Uzbekistan), Xu Haibo (China), Rawat Kushagra (India), Khiew Hoe Yean (Malaysia), Thammananthachote (Thailand), Tanaka Shun (Japan)..., Huy Hoang started a bit slow but managed to take the lead after the first 100 meters. He maintained this leading position throughout the swim and finished after 7 minutes 57 seconds 58, winning the gold medal. Sibirtsev and Xu Haibo finished 2 seconds 79 and 4 seconds 76 slower than the Vietnamese swimmer, respectively.
Huy Hoang received gold medal in men's 800m
Previously, on September 29, Huy Hoang also won the gold medal in the men's 1,500m freestyle and became the first Vietnamese swimmer to win two gold medals at the Asian Championships. Experts assessed that Huy Hoang's explosive performance (along with many other athletes) at this tournament was partly due to the fact that the top swimmers from China, Korea, and Japan did not participate. However, their efforts deserve recognition as their achievements were among the leading group at ASIAD 19, specifically in the Top 6.
Huy Hoang won the men's 1,500m freestyle
From another perspective, the achievements at the continental arena show Huy Hoang's "unrivaled" performance in these two strong distances at the Southeast Asian level. This means that the star from Quang Binh can fully hope to continue winning gold at the 33rd SEA Games, not only in the 800 m, 1,500 m but also in the 200 m, 400 m freestyle swimming distances as well as the 4x100 m relay.

The achievements of Vietnamese athletes are of great significance, contributing to affirming the remarkable progress of the country's swimming in the international arena.
Vietnam team ranked 4th in Asia
In addition to Nguyen Huy Hoang, the Vietnamese swimming team also achieved positive results with a total of 15 medals, being the only Southeast Asian team to win gold medals at the tournament in India. Thailand only brought home 6 bronze medals, Malaysia won 2 bronze medals, while Indonesia and Singapore did not send swimmers to participate. The Philippines also did not have any medals.
In the overall rankings, China continued to demonstrate its absolute strength by dominating with 28 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. Japan ranked second with 5 gold medals, while Hong Kong - China ranked third with 3 gold medals.
