The agricultural sector maintained stability with total aquatic product output reaching nearly 192 thousand tons, up 9.54% over the same period, reaching nearly 34% of the plan. The aquaculture area also increased by nearly 12%, reaching nearly 79% of the yearly plan. The work of preventing black-headed caterpillars on coconut trees has changed significantly, with more than 221 hectares restored. The new rural development program continued to achieve results when in the month, 5 more communes met the standards and 3 communes improved, bringing the total number of communes meeting the standards in the province to 118.
The industrial and handicraft sector recorded an estimated production value of VND12,760 billion after 4 months, an increase of more than 14% over the same period. Some key products such as coconut fiber, canned coconut water, garments, kraft paper... had a good growth rate. Meanwhile, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached more than VND24,000 billion, an increase of 8.69%. Export turnover reached 644 million USD, an increase of nearly 24%, exceeding the annual plan by 33%.
Tourism continued to be a highlight when Ben Tre welcomed more than 1 million visitors, including more than 346 thousand international visitors, an increase of more than 33%. Tourism revenue reached more than 1,300 billion VND, an increase of nearly 40% over the same period. Notably, the province has issued a set of green tourism criteria and strengthened regional development linkages, opening up new prospects for the smokeless industry.
Regarding budget revenue, total revenue in the first four months of the year reached more than VND3,000 billion, equivalent to nearly 48% of the estimate, up nearly 14%. However, disbursement of public investment capital is still low, reaching only more than 11% of the plan, requiring all levels and sectors to drastically remove bottlenecks to accelerate in the coming months.
The cultural and social sectors were also bustling with a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. The education sector completed the provincial excellent student exam, carefully prepared for the 10th grade entrance exam and high school graduation exam. Social security work continued to be ensured, creating jobs for more than 8,400 people, supporting labor export, granting work permits to foreigners and implementing the regime for meritorious people in accordance with regulations.
Entering May, the Provincial People's Committee identified the key task as maintaining growth momentum, striving to achieve the GRDP target for the second quarter as planned. The province will continue to focus on promoting disbursement of public investment capital, implementing resolutions of the Provincial People's Council, effectively implementing the agricultural restructuring program associated with new rural construction and developing key products. Along with that, Ben Tre will strengthen investment promotion, prepare to organize a working delegation to the Middle East, and at the same time implement plans for innovation, digital transformation, support for startups and eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.
Ben Tre is also actively coordinating to complete the project of arranging commune-level administrative units and preparing plans to merge the province with Vinh Long according to the Central direction. Ensuring security, order, traffic safety and disaster prevention and control work are focused on during the holidays and dry season of 2025.
