6th Session of Phong Tho District Children's Council

On the morning of May 30, the Phong Tho District Children's Council held its 6th meeting to discuss and give opinions on issues such as child marriage, tobacco, etc.

Leaders of the District Youth Union, Phong Tho District Youth Union, Plan International Lai Chau Region, Children's Council Advisory Board, District Youth Advisory Board, Youth Union Secretaries of communes and towns, and 31 Children's Council members, 31 outstanding children from schools in the district attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the District Children's Council viewed a slideshow of the summary report and issues affecting children drawn from the information collection in the district. Accordingly, the district currently has 23,564 children under the age of 16. Since its establishment, the District Children's Council has participated in 8 training courses and 6 District Children's Council meetings, 2 dialogues with the District People's Council Standing Committee. Since the beginning of the year, the District Children's Council has collected 1,324 questionnaires for children aged 7 to under 16. The questionnaires focused on 3 topics: Early marriage, electronic cigarettes, and traffic safety.

Members of the Youth Council and children focused on discussing and learning about issues such as: Law on Gender Equality, Law on Children, Law on Order and Road Traffic Safety 2024; legal regulations on child marriage; consequences on health, study and life when minors get married and use e-cigarettes; harmful effects of cigarettes, e-cigarettes...

At the same time, propose solutions to solve the above problems for parents, families, schools, teachers and authorities such as: Building and implementing programs to eliminate prejudices and bad customs in families and communities leading to a reduction in child marriage; building economic development models for adolescents so that girls can be more economically independent; increasing attention, monitoring and educating children about the harmful effects of child marriage, e-cigarettes and non-compliance with traffic safety. Establishing an anonymous information receiving channel, helping students, teachers and parents to report suspected cases without fear of discrimination. Strengthening inspection and strict handling of establishments selling e-cigarettes to minors, including criminal prosecution if there are sufficient factors.
