Celebrating 30 years of Hue Monuments Complex being recognized as a world heritage

The 30th anniversary (1993 - 2023) of the Complex of Hue Monuments and the 20th anniversary (2003 - 2023) of Nha Nhac - Vietnamese Court Music being recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage is a special event in the series of activities of Hue Festival 2023.

On June 15, Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang, Chief of Office of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, said that on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Complex of Hue Monuments and the 20th anniversary of the recognition of Vietnamese Royal Court Music by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the province will organize a celebration program with many special activities taking place over 3 days (from June 16-18). Accordingly, the celebration program includes outstanding activities such as: Opening of the exhibition "Vietnam's landscape on the Nine Urns" (at 8:00 a.m. on June 16 at Hien Lam Cac, Imperial City - Hue); opening of the exhibition of fine arts and heritage with the theme "Heritage of royal court performances and inspiration for painting" (at 4:30 p.m. on June 16 at the Forbidden City Corridor, Imperial City - Hue); Opening of the exhibition "Than Kinh Nhi Thap Canh, King Thieu Tri's Poetry" through Taiwanese calligraphy (at 8:00 a.m. on June 17 at Thieu Phuong Garden, Imperial City - Hue)... In particular, the Art Program to celebrate the honored heritages with the theme "Heritage of the Ancient Capital, Memory and Transmission" will take place at 8:00 p.m. on June 17 at Ngo Mon Square with the participation of 9 art troupes, nearly 450 domestic and international artists, a large stage with a capacity of about 6,000 people. Also on this occasion, Thua Thien Hue province will launch the "Hue Heritage Conservation Fund". The motto of the Hue Heritage Conservation Fund is to operate not for profit with the desire to preserve and promote the values ​​of Hue heritage and culture according to the general direction of the Party and State; bring cultural and historical values ​​to the people, tourists and communities at home and abroad in a more profound way; contributing to promoting economic growth, enhancing the image and position of Thua Thien Hue province in particular and Vietnam in general in the international arena. The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province said that exactly 30 years ago, on December 11, 1993, the Complex of Hue Monuments was officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 410th heritage in the list of world heritages and the first world heritage of Vietnam to be honored. Next, on November 7, 2003, Nha Nhac - Vietnamese Royal Court Music was also listed by UNESCO in the List of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which is also the first intangible cultural heritage of our country to be recognized. Up to now, Thua Thien Hue is the only province in Vietnam as well as in Southeast Asia with 7 heritages recognized by UNESCO, including 5 heritages of Hue (Complex of Hue Monuments (1993 - Tangible Heritage), Nha Nhac - Vietnamese Royal Court Music (2003 - Intangible Heritage), Woodblocks of the Nguyen Dynasty (2009 - Documentary Heritage), Royal Records of the Nguyen Dynasty (2014 - Documentary Heritage), Poetry on Hue Royal Architecture (2016 - Documentary Heritage) and 2 heritages shared with other localities (The Art of Bài Chòi in Central Vietnam and Practice of the Mother Goddess Worship of the Vietnamese). With the attention of the Party, State, Government, Central and local departments, ministries and branches, the active support of UNESCO and the international community, the conservation of the Complex of Hue Monuments has been implemented and achieved many proud results: Complex of Hue Monuments - the capital of Vietnam The Nguyen Dynasty in Vietnamese history is gradually being revived. For Nha Nhac, many core basic values ​​have been studied, restored, preserved and promoted. According to UNESCO's assessment, the conservation of Hue Monuments is currently moving into a phase of stability and sustainable development. In particular, the conservation of cultural heritage values ​​is always closely linked to the process of exploiting and promoting values, serving as an important lever in the socio-economic development strategy of the province and the region, focusing on tourism and service economy and associated with the orientation of building and developing Thua Thien Hue province to 2030, with a vision to 2045 according to Resolution 54-NQ/TW issued on December 10, 2019 by the Politburo . In recent times, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has taken strategic steps with the implementation of the Project on Planning, Conservation and Promotion of the Value of Hue Monuments in the period of 1996 - 2010 according to Decision No. 105/QD-TTg dated December 12, 1996 of the Prime Minister); Project to adjust the Planning, conservation and promotion of the value of Hue Monuments in the period 2010 - 2020 according to Decision No. 818/QD-TTg dated June 7, 2010 of the Prime Minister, in order to fulfill the role and responsibility in the work of preserving and promoting heritage values ​​​​under the influence of time, natural disasters and humans.
