High School Graduation Exam 2025: Parents "relieve pressure" for their children

More than 1.1 million candidates nationwide have just completed procedures to take the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. Many parents and candidates this year welcomed this important exam with a rather relaxed mentality.

Ms. Nguyen Hong Anh (Nguyen Hong Street, Hanoi ), a parent whose son is studying at Cau Giay High School, shared: "During 12 years of study, especially 3 years of high school, my son has tried very hard. His academic results are relatively good, his 3 university entrance exam scores are all above 9, and his IELTS certificate is 7.5".

She believes that with these achievements, her son has the opportunity to enter some of his dream universities through the admission method of high school transcripts and IELTS.

However, she said her child is still studying hard to achieve the highest results in the high school graduation exam, with the desire to study communications at the Diplomatic Academy or the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda. "With no complacency and her strong academic performance, I believe she will confidently do well on the test and achieve her goals," Ms. Hong Anh said.

Similarly, Ms. Vu Thuy Hoa (Loc Hoa Ward, Nam Dinh City), although always worried about her child's studies, did not feel pressured when the exam date was near. Her daughter had a competency assessment score of 102 and an IELTS score of 6.0. Although the goal of entering the National Economics University depends largely on the results of the high school graduation exam, Ms. Hoa believes that her child still has many other opportunities if she does not achieve her expectations.

"I realize that if parents keep high expectations, not only the children but also the parents will be under a lot of pressure. My child has studied hard for the past year, if he doesn't achieve the highest goal, he still has many other wishes. I just hope he can take the exam with a comfortable, calm, and confident mindset." Even though she is not under pressure, Ms. Hoa still does not forget to go to temples and pagodas to pray for luck for her child, with the thought of "doing everything best for her child, so that she can have a little more luck on her journey to pass the exam".

Even in cases where the child's academic performance is not outstanding, like the son of Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang (My Dinh, Hanoi), parents still maintain a light-hearted mentality. Ms. Trang said that her child only scored 7-8 points in each subject in the practice tests, did not have an IELTS certificate and only had an ability assessment score of 82. However, she is not worried that her child will "fail the university entrance exam" because nowadays candidates have many options.

"I think that if your child cannot get into a top school, he can study at a top 2 or 3 school. The most important thing is that during his university years, he tries to practice and equip himself with more soft skills, so that after graduating, he will not worry too much about job opportunities." Ms. Trang also emphasized that the role of parents only goes to a certain stage, later on, children will have to be independent to grow up.

It can be seen that the 2025 high school graduation exam is gradually being viewed through a new lens. Changes in admission regulations have helped relieve pressure on both candidates and parents, helping them feel more confident when facing this exam.

Tomorrow morning (June 26), candidates will take the Literature exam for 120 minutes; in the afternoon, they will take the Math exam for 90 minutes.

On June 27, candidates taking the 2018 General Education Program will take an optional exam (including 2 subjects from the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology, Foreign Languages); Candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program will take an optional exam in the morning of Natural Sciences/Social Sciences, and in the afternoon of Foreign Languages.

This afternoon, more than 1.16 million candidates completed procedures to take the 2025 high school graduation exam.
