With the approval of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the City Department of Culture and Sports coordinated with the Vietnam Chess Federation to organize the qualifying round of the World Go Championship on October 25 and 26 at the First Hotel hall (Tan Son Nhat Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).

85 players to participate in 2025 World Championship qualifiers
Vietnam is honored to be the only country to be represented to compete with the four Go powers of Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan. Not only that, the main sponsor of the tournament, Shinhan Bank, also supported the cost of organizing the qualifying event in Ho Chi Minh City, including bonuses for high-achieving players of up to 177 million VND.

After two days of intense and fierce competition, the qualifying round of the 1st Shinhan Bank KISEON World Go Championship ended in Ho Chi Minh City. 85 top national players competed in three groups, including the championship group, the U11 youth group and the U16 youth group. The player who ranked first in the championship group will receive a ticket to the 1st World Go Championship held at the end of December in Korea.

Winning all 6 matches, female player Ha Quynh Anh (HCMC) topped the championship table, received the cup, 50 million VND in prize money and the right to participate in the 2025 World Go Championship. In the U11 youth group, male player Pham Uyen Di ranked first, and in the U16 youth group, Luu Bang Bang (HCMC) won the championship.

Go is an intellectual sport that has been growing strongly with tens of millions of players on all continents and tens of millions of games played every day.
The 1st Shinhan Bank KISEON World Go Championship Qualifiers is not only a sporting event but also a wonderful festival of intelligence, art, excellence and a celebration of the beauty of Go, marking a new turning point in the development of the Go movement in Vietnam.

In August, with the lineup of Ha Quynh Anh, Giang Vien Minh and Tran Quang Tue, the Vietnamese Go team won the first Southeast Asian Championship held in Malaysia. The prize for the championship title was 3,000 RM (about 10.9 million VND). In particular, Ha Quynh Anh was honored as "Best Female Player" with a personal prize of 500 RM (about 1.8 million VND).
