Thanh Thúy performed brilliantly.
Unfortunately, an injury sustained in early 2024 forced Tran Thi Thanh Thuy to work hard to regain her peak form. Before returning to Japan to play for Gunna Green Wings, Thanh Thuy had an unsuccessful stint, leaving teams in the Turkish and Indonesian leagues early.

Determined to prove herself, Thanh Thúy continued to seek opportunities in the top league in Asia, Japan. The 28-year-old hitter brought joy to Vietnamese volleyball fans when she was given the chance to play in all six matches of the tournament by Gunna Green Wings. Furthermore, she displayed high performance, becoming the team's main scorer.
In the 6th match of the Japanese volleyball league held yesterday (October 26th), Thanh Thúy scored 23 points, making a significant contribution to helping Gunna Green Wings come from behind to defeat PFU Blue Cats 3-2. Previously, in the 5th match against PFU Blue Cats, Thanh Thúy played brilliantly, contributing 21 points to secure a 3-1 victory for her team. Furthermore, the captain of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was voted the best player of the match. Thanks to Thanh Thúy's impressive performance, Gunna Green Wings rose to 7th place out of 14 teams participating in this season's Japanese volleyball championship.
All-around offensive and defensive capabilities
In the six matches played so far in Japan, Thanh Thúy has received much praise from the coaches for her effective use of powerful and fast attacks at the net, a strength of her position as an outside hitter. In particular, the captain of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has been highly rated for her defensive support and her determined, tenacious fighting spirit. This improvement in defense is considered a significant step forward for Thanh Thúy, as she previously focused primarily on offense.
Following their impressive victory against PFU Blue Cats, Gunna Green Wings posted highlights of Thanh Thúy's impressive plays. Many commented that the Vietnamese national volleyball star is becoming increasingly well-rounded, demonstrating effective attacking skills at the net, attacks from behind the 3-meter line, and scoring points with her serves. Some even suggested that Thanh Thúy has gradually regained her peak form from her time playing for PFU Blue Cats (Japan) in 2022-2023.
Positive signs for the 33rd SEA Games
The impressive performance of star player Tran Thi Thanh Thuy while playing for Gunna Green Wings in the Japanese volleyball league is good news for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. At the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand this December, Thanh Thuy and her teammates aim to win the gold medal. Despite reaching the SEA Games finals many times, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has never won the gold medal, always losing to Thailand. This time, Thanh Thuy and her teammates are showing high determination to make history.
With Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen absent from the SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is pinning all its hopes on Thanh Thuy's ability to shine, especially in scoring. She has reached an agreement with Gunna Green Wings to return and represent the Vietnamese women's volleyball team at the SEA Games 33. In previous overseas stints, Thanh Thuy has always expressed her desire to contribute to the Vietnamese women's volleyball team in important international tournaments.
