Yoga is an Indian tradition that represents the unity of mind and body, thought and action, harmony between man and nature, a holistic approach to health and well-being. The word Yoga means the union of an individual's consciousness with the universal consciousness and the practice of Yoga promotes balance in everyday life.
Art program to open the event
On 11 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) unanimously adopted a resolution by 177 countries and declared 21 June as International Yoga Day. The UNGA called for raising awareness about the health benefits of practicing Yoga among people around the world . Yoga brings harmony to people from all walks of life and thus promotes good health and the management of lifestyle-related issues. The theme of the 10th International Day in 2024 is “Yoga for Women’s Empowerment”.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Tong Thanh Hai - Permanent Vice Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee said: In Lai Chau, in recent years, the Yoga practice movement has been developing strongly; in the province, there are currently 03 facilities registered to teach Yoga with 400 students practicing regularly, in addition, there are a number of locations organizing Yoga practice activities in the form of sports clubs with about 500 participants . The International Yoga Day event held in Lai Chau today will contribute to promoting and encouraging the Yoga practice movement and improving the health of people in the province. Lai Chau province hopes that International Yoga Day will become an annual event, a bridge to resonate and promote the beautiful nature, friendly and hospitable Lai Chau people to get closer to domestic and international tourists .

At the event, Ms. Monica Sharma - Director of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center, Embassy of India in Hanoi said: “I appreciate all of you for joining the call to celebrate International Yoga Day here today. The Government of India has given the theme for this year’s International Yoga Day as: Yoga – Empowering Women. I am very happy to see the participation of women in the event and this will inspire all of us. The widespread interest in Yoga across Vietnam is very encouraging and is associated with a strong belief in health. I encourage everyone to promote and popularize the real benefits of yoga as well as practice it as a regular habit in life. I am grateful to all of you for showing your spirit and solidarity today; thank Lai Chau Provincial People’s Committee and relevant units in the province for supporting today’s event”.

This is the first time that International Yoga Day has been held in Lai Chau province. With the theme of this year's program "YOGA EMPOWERS WOMEN", the organization of International Yoga Day in Lai Chau province is a practical activity to celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day in 2024. Through this, athletes in Yoga clubs, teams and groups in the province can exchange experiences and develop this sport. In particular, this is an opportunity for cultural exchange, promoting the increasingly strong solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and India. Through the International Yoga Day event, it is an opportunity for Lai Chau province to introduce the image of the homeland, cultural beauty, and people to domestic and international friends and tourists; contributing to promoting and attracting tourists to the locality.
