Lam Dong proposes to shorten runway repair time at Lien Khuong International Airport

(LĐ online) - Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has issued a document requesting Lien Khuong International Airport to promptly calculate a plan to shorten the construction time for upgrading and repairing taxiways, take-offs and landings from 8 months to 6 months.

Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has just issued the Conclusion of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuc - Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee at the meeting to listen to the report on the implementation of the project to repair the runway, landing and taxiway - Lien Khuong International Airport held on May 7.

Accordingly, Lam Dong provincial leaders assigned the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment to introduce legal mines to provide stone and earth materials for the project, these mines are located within a radius of 20 km from the airport; and provide guidance on carrying out procedures and documents according to regulations.

The Department of Construction is responsible for coordinating with investors, consultants and relevant departments and branches to review and evaluate investment preparation work and construction solutions to ensure progress and shorten the closure time of Lien Khuong airport.

At the same time, the Department of Construction took the lead in advising on the establishment of a working group to support the investor in the project implementation process, in which the leader of the Department of Construction was the team leader, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment was the deputy team leader and representatives of Duc Trong district and related departments and branches. The People's Committee of Duc Trong district was responsible for reviewing and providing information on material mines such as sand, stone, embankment soil, dumping sites and coordinating in the project implementation.

In June 2024, the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committee of Lam Dong province announced the decision to convert Lien Khuong Airport into Lien Khuong International Airport. This is the first international airport in the Central Highlands region.

Regarding Lien Khuong International Airport, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee requested the unit to report to the Civil Aviation Authority and Vietnam Airports Corporation (project investor) to carry out a number of tasks such as: Choosing a suitable time to close Lien Khuong Airport, not affecting much on tourism, travel and socio -economic development of the province, reporting back to Lam Dong province before May 30; carefully preparing equipment, machinery, materials... to ensure construction immediately after the airport is closed.

Lam Dong Province requested Lien Khuong International Airport to evaluate, propose specific solutions and have backup plans to ensure construction progress, calculate to shorten construction time, possibly shorten from 8 months to 6 months as planned.

Previously, in June 2024, the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committee of Lam Dong province announced the decision to convert Lien Khuong Airport into Lien Khuong International Airport. This is the first international airport in the Central Highlands region.

Lien Khuong International Airport is a 4E-class airport with an expected design capacity of about 5 million passengers per year. By 2030, Lien Khuong International Airport will build a T2 passenger terminal with a capacity of 3 million passengers per year to the east of the existing T1 passenger terminal; simultaneously operating both T1 and T2 terminals with a total capacity of 5 million passengers per year.

By 2050, Lien Khuong International Airport will expand passenger terminal T2 to a capacity of 5 million passengers/year; simultaneously operate both terminals T1 and T2 with a total capacity of 7 million passengers/year.

Lien Khuong International Airport is an important gateway, contributing greatly to the success of Lam Dong's tourism industry. According to a report from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province, during the recent April 30 and May 1 holidays, the locality is estimated to welcome about 240,000 visitors for sightseeing and relaxation, an increase of about 14.3% over the same period in 2024. Of which, international visitors are estimated at 14,000 (an increase of 75% over the same period in 2024); domestic visitors are estimated at 226,000 (an increase of 11.9% over the same period in 2024), and overnight visitors are estimated at 160,000 (an increase of 23% over the same period in 2024).
