After the merger, the new Lam Dong province will have more room to develop the cultural industry.

That is the opinion of many leading Vietnamese experts and scientists at the Workshop on socio -economic development orientations of Lam Dong province in the period of 2026-2030 and the following years, which was jointly organized by leaders of the three provinces of Lam Dong, Binh Thuan and Dak Nong on June 10, in Da Lat city (Lam Dong).

Contribute clearer directions for the future development of Lam Dong province

Speaking at the opening of the Workshop, Mr. Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam - Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee emphasized that the Workshop took place in a very special context - when the orientation of regional linkage and merger of the three provinces of Lam Dong - Dak Nong - Binh Thuan is being studied and discussed at a strategic level.

“This is an important forum for Lam Dong to have more data and practical arguments, thereby repositioning more carefully and orienting more clearly the development of Lam Dong province in both the near and far future.

The immediate task is to integrate into the draft documents of the new Lam Dong Provincial Party Congress with the spirit of innovation and creativity, the aspiration to build Lam Dong province to develop dynamically and sustainably, with a unique culture, and a higher standard of living and quality of life than the national average," the Secretary of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee emphasized.

Many useful comments and opinions have suggested directions for socio-economic development in the coming time for the locality.

The workshop received scientific presentations and comments with high theoretical and practical basis from leading Vietnamese experts and scientists on development orientations in many fields to contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality in the future.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Van Huyen - Member of the Central Theoretical Council, Director of the Institute of Economics - Society and Environment, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, mentioned major orientations for socio-economic development of Lam Dong province after the merger of the three provinces of Lam Dong, Dak Nong and Binh Thuan.

The merger creates a new Lam Dong that is diverse and has many potentials. The locality needs to focus on its strengths such as the consensus of the political system, large area and cultural diversity. Opportunities include re-planning the entire region for more balanced development.

Meanwhile, Architect Tran Ngoc Chinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, proposed that the urban development orientation of the new province needs to ensure three principles: synchronization, sustainability and regional connectivity. At the same time, special attention should also be paid to the role of Da Lat as the political, cultural and scientific center of the region...

Concluding the workshop, Mr. Tran Hong Thai - Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee affirmed that the 3 provinces will absorb all valuable contributions from experts, scientists and managers to complete and build socio-economic development orientations for the 2021 - 2025 term, as well as shape key tasks in the upcoming Provincial Party Congress Documents.

Developing the cultural industry in the new era

This is one of the topics discussed and received special attention within the framework of the Workshop.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong - Director of the Institute of Culture, Arts, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, after the merger, in addition to the border, Lam Dong also has a more diverse sea route and cultural space with a full community of 54 ethnic groups; a diverse and unique intangible cultural heritage system with many unique folk cultural festivals, typically the New Rice Festival, the Harvest Prayer Ceremony, the Wedding Ceremony, the Housewarming Ceremony...

Da Lat will be a "creative core" attracting tourists

Besides, the gong cultural spaces of ethnic minorities in Lam Dong and the Central Highlands provinces have been honored by UNESCO as Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the World and Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In addition, there are two special national relics, Cat Tien National Park and Cat Tien Archaeology, along with dozens of national and provincial relics that have been and are invaluable resources, creating momentum for Lam Dong to become a creative cultural center.

Taking Da Lat as the "creative core area", attracting tourists to exploit tourism types such as eco-tourism, resort tourism, forest ecosystem experience tourism, cultural tourism, historical tourism, spiritual tourism and creating valuable cultural products, imbued with the identity of the Central Highlands.

Historical, cultural and scenic relics will be invaluable resources that will create momentum for Lam Dong to become a creative cultural center.

However, according to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, there may still be a long gap between awareness and action. Because in some cases, the solution to the problem of creating a “leverage” for the cultural industry does not “match” the need to receive the driving force of tourism development or balance with ensuring sustainable development goals from the commitments of the UCCN creative city.

On the other hand, the "phase difference" in the mechanism for nurturing the ecosystem of cultural industrial products at some tourist destinations also continues to cause businesses and creative communities that have been working hard to fall into a dilemma in their mission of creating leverage for tourism.

This is the "bottleneck" that Lam Dong needs to identify and avoid if it is determined to develop cultural industries into "soft levers" to create momentum for eco-tourism, green tourism associated with cultural tourism, heritage tourism, historical tourism, and forest tourism to develop.

Da Lat is a “creative core area”, attracting tourists from various types of eco-tourism, resort tourism, forest ecosystem experience tourism, cultural tourism, etc.

To solve the problem, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong proposed a number of solutions including:

Localities need to build cultural industry maps and art maps integrated with tourist destinations.

Specifically, local departments, agencies and sectors need to coordinate to review the overall situation and potential to determine the level of overlap or connectivity between tourist destinations and clusters and complexes of cultural and creative spaces. This process should be carried out in several steps.

In addition, it is necessary to prioritize investment in cultural industry to unleash creativity, unlock resources in promoting the rich strengths of cultural resources, cultural heritage, natural heritage, urban architectural heritage of Lam Dong with products and services of economic value, creating jobs for the creative community, businesses, and local people.

Particularly for Da Lat, it is necessary to find solutions to implement commitments to the UCCN network after the administrative unit merger to position the music brand in international connectivity and sustainable cultural, historical and natural tourism experiences.
