Lam Dong: Number of deforestation cases decreased but amount of timber damaged due to deforestation increased sharply

On May 12, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province said that from December 11, 2024 to present, there have been 34 violations of the Forestry Law in the province, with a damaged forest area of ​​4.2 hectares; the total volume of damaged forest products is 419.7m3 ^{of various} types of wood.

Although the number of violations decreased by 20 cases compared to the same period (down 37%), the damaged area due to deforestation in Lam Dong increased by 1.49 hectares (up 54%).

In particular, the volume of damaged forest products from the beginning of the year to date has increased by 291m3 ^of various types of wood (an increase of 222%). Among the violations, there were 22 cases of deforestation, causing damage of 400.7m3 ^{of various} types of wood.

In addition, there were 6 cases of forest exploitation in Lam Dong province, and scattered cases of illegal storage, trading, and transportation of forest products... concentrated in Da Lat city, Bao Lam, Da Huoai, Lam Ha, Lac Duong, Duc Trong, and Don Duong districts.
