Ho Chi Minh City directs to speed up progress of flood prevention projects and works before the rainy and stormy season

Accordingly, localities and relevant units continue to effectively implement the direction in Official Dispatch 3067/UBND-DT on ensuring safety during the 2024 storm season; focus on accelerating the progress of flood prevention projects and works on roads under their management, promptly reporting problems to propose solutions; increase dredging of canal systems, handle cases of discharge that clogs sewers, in order to improve drainage efficiency; mobilize people and businesses to effectively implement the campaign "Do not litter on the streets and canals" to keep the environment clean and reduce flooding; increase patrols and handle violations related to encroachment on drainage systems and illegal construction; use FEDS software to monitor and update the flooding situation on small roads and alleys.

The Department of Construction accelerates the progress of infrastructure projects, especially flood eradication and reduction projects according to the 2021-2025 plan, to resolve frequently flooded roads; Ensure drainage, limit flooding during project construction; Coordinate with localities to inspect, review, and treat trees to ensure safety and respond promptly to storms. At the same time, strengthen inspection and strictly handle violations of encroachment on drainage systems and illegal construction that damages infrastructure. Units need to regularly update the flood situation via FEDS software to proactively respond.

The Department of Construction is also assigned to take the lead in accelerating the progress of flood prevention projects in the 2021-2025 period, ensuring drainage during construction, coordinating the review of urban trees, promptly handling cases of fallen trees and rotten trees during the rainy and stormy season; organizing the planting of replacement trees for old trees, ensuring the safe and sustainable development of the tree system.

The program aims to improve disaster prevention capacity, minimize damage caused by flooding and storms, and protect the lives and property of city residents.
