Traffic accident on pilgrimage road, 4 people seriously injured

A car carrying a group of pilgrims from Ho Chi Minh City to Lam Dong suddenly collided with a truck in the early morning of May 11, seriously injuring four people, including a woman whose leg had to be amputated.

On May 12, Cho Ray Hospital (HCMC) said it was treating four victims in a serious traffic accident that occurred on the national highway when a car carrying 24 pilgrims from Binh Thanh District (HCMC) to Bao Loc City ( Lam Dong ) collided with a truck at 3 a.m. on May 11.

After receiving first aid at Dinh Quan Regional General Hospital ( Dong Nai ), the 4 patients were transferred to Cho Ray Hospital.

Among them, patient LTM (66 years old, Hoc Mon district) suffered multiple serious injuries: a broken femur, severed upper right leg, skin peeling off the hands and injuries to both legs. The medical team performed blood transfusion, emergency fluid infusion and partial leg amputation. After 24 hours, the patient was conscious and responsive, and will need further treatment and rehabilitation with a prosthetic leg.

Patient LTE (62 years old, also living in Hoc Mon) had 1/3 posterior tibial artery occlusion, open fracture of the tibia, talus and heel. Doctors performed surgery to re-open the artery and treat the injury. The patient is currently stable but must be monitored for infection risk.

In addition, two other patients, VTQM (47 years old, District 7) and D.TNQ (60 years old, Hoc Mon) suffered from soft tissue injuries, headaches, dizziness, and swelling and pain in the jaw and face. Both are being treated at the Department of Traumatic Brain Injury with a positive prognosis.
