Lam Giang lights up hope from sturgeon model

In early May, we had the opportunity to visit the sturgeon farming model of Mr. Dang Van Cuong in Ngoi Cai village with Mr. Cao Manh Khoi - Secretary of the Party Committee of Lam Giang commune, Van Yen district, and the working delegation of the commune. In the middle of the cool green space, the clear water flowing through each pond, the small but neat and orderly model appeared as a positive sign for the new economic development direction of the people here.

Mr. Cuong, the owner of a sturgeon farm, enthusiastically introduced the model that his family has persistently built. He said that sturgeon is a freshwater fish with high economic value but requires very strict natural conditions. "Sturgeon grows well in places with cool climates, clean and stable water sources. Ngoi Cai village has a suitable altitude, there are still many forests so the water is cool all year round. However, the most difficult part is still controlling the water source. We must ensure cleanliness and appropriate physical and chemical indicators for the fish to be healthy and grow well," Mr. Cuong shared.

From the design of the fish tank, water treatment, to breed selection and care, all have been carefully researched by Mr. Cuong's family. Each fish tank is a closed cycle, with a rough filter system, fine filter and settling tank, helping to ensure water quality is always at an optimal level. Thanks to that, although the model is small, the survival rate of fish is high, the growth rate is stable, the output is relatively favorable and the income is quite good. Witnessing the sturgeon farming model in Ngoi Cai village, the Secretary of Lam Giang Commune Party Committee - Cao Manh Khoi highly appreciated the efforts and creativity of the households.

He affirmed: "This is a model that brings high economic value, contributing to improving people's lives. However, in the commune, there are currently only a few small, spontaneous models. In the coming time, the Commune Party Committee will focus on directing organizations and specialized agencies to promote propaganda, raise awareness and knowledge for people, and encourage the expansion of this model."

According to the development orientation, Lam Giang commune will organize training courses on sturgeon farming techniques, disseminate knowledge on water resource management, fish care and disease prevention.

At the same time, the commune will coordinate with banks and credit institutions to support households in accessing preferential capital to invest in expanding production scale. Connecting consumption markets and building brands for Lam Giang sturgeon products will also be considered, in order to ensure stable and sustainable output for farmers.

From Mr. Cuong’s practical experience, it can be seen that if supported with technology and resources, the sturgeon farming model can completely develop strongly in Lam Giang. This is not only a direction suitable for the local natural conditions but also opens up the prospect of forming new commodity production areas, increasing income, and stabilizing people’s lives. To ensure the sustainable development of sturgeon farming, the application of advanced techniques and management of the farming environment is very important.

For example, raising sturgeon in a water recirculation system helps control water quality and minimize the impact of climate change on production. In addition, attention should be paid to disease prevention and treatment for sturgeon, such as using water disinfection measures and vitamin supplements to enhance the fish's resistance.

Furthermore, building a brand for Lam Giang sturgeon products as well as those of Na Hau commune before will help increase product value and expand the consumption market. Models of linking production and consumption of products between farmers and businesses can be an effective solution to promote this industry to develop strongly and sustainably in the future.

The small model in the middle of a peaceful village today can be the beginning of a new profession, contributing to creating a modern and sustainable agricultural economy for Lam Giang in the future.
