Deepening the Vietnam - Cuba Comprehensive Cooperation

On September 27, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received a high-ranking delegation of the Cuban Party and State led by Esteban Lazo Hernandez, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the National Assembly of the People's Power of the Republic of Cuba, who visited Vietnam and attended the 50th anniversary of the visit of Leader Fidel Castro to the liberated zone of Quang Tri province, southern Vietnam (September 1973 - September 2023).

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez, representing the leadership of the Cuban Party and State, to attend this Anniversary Ceremony, demonstrating the importance of the fraternal Cuban Party and State to the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, once again affirming the historical significance and great encouragement of Cuban leader Fidel Castro's visit to the Liberated Zone of Southern Vietnam with the immortal words "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its blood".

The General Secretary expressed his delight at the positive development of relations between the two parties and countries in recent times. The two sides have coordinated to organize many meaningful activities to commemorate the first historic visit to Vietnam by Leader Fidel Castro, thereby promoting and educating the people of the two countries, especially the younger generation, about the historical tradition of the special friendship, contributing to consolidating and deepening the Vietnam - Cuba Comprehensive Cooperation.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that Vietnam always values, preserves and is determined to deepen the special traditional solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba and its consistent stance of solidarity, support for Cuba, opposition and call for an end to the policy of blockade and embargo against Cuba.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong recalled profound memories of the Vietnam-Cuba solidarity relationship and the affection of Cuban leaders and people.

President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez thanked General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for taking the time to receive the delegation and conveyed the greetings of General Raul Castro, leader of the Cuban revolution; First Secretary, President Diaz-Canel, and Cuban leaders to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - a close friend of the Cuban people.

President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his honor to represent the leaders of the Cuban Party and State to attend this year's special celebration and highly appreciated the commemorative activities held in Vietnam.

The President of the Cuban National Assembly affirmed that the Party, State and people of Cuba always attach importance to the traditional solidarity and special friendship between Cuba and Vietnam, founded by President Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh, and nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the two countries over the past 60 years.

The Cuban leaders and people wish to inherit and promote that invaluable legacy to expand and deepen the close relationship between the two Parties and two countries, for the benefit of each country's people, for socialism, for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world. Cuba considers its relationship with Vietnam to be of strategic significance. Leader Fidel Castro stated that the Cuba-Vietnam relationship is a symbol of the times.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed the meaningful message from the leaders of the Cuban Party and State to the Party, State and people of Vietnam on this occasion. Vietnam always respects and is grateful for the wholehearted support and assistance that the Party, State and people of Cuba have given Vietnam in the past cause of national liberation and reunification as well as in the current cause of national construction and defense.

The General Secretary expressed his firm belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba headed by First Secretary Díaz-Canel, the Cuban people will certainly overcome all difficulties, successfully implement the resolutions of the 8th Congress, update the socio-economic development process, protect the achievements of the revolution and firmly step forward on the path of building socialism. Vietnam shares Cuba's difficulties, will always strive to improve the effectiveness of cooperation, and will do its utmost to support Cuba within its capacity.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez agreed to continue to consolidate the foundation of political relations between the two Parties, as a guideline for the development of cooperation between the two countries, and suggested that ministries, branches, organizations and localities of the two countries cooperate closely, flexibly implement high-level agreements, programs and agreements signed, along with increasing the exchange of theories, experiences and selecting areas with great potential and appropriate methods to create new steps of development in economic, trade, investment, agricultural, educational, biotechnology and medical cooperation.

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Cuba, President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his joy at the achievements of the Party, State and people of Vietnam in the process of renovation and implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Congress and that the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will certainly achieve the set development goals; and appreciated the consistent policy of support, solidarity and assistance to Cuba of the Party, State and people of Vietnam.

Cuban National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez highly appreciated and thanked Vietnam and Cuba for their multifaceted cooperation, from exchanging experiences to transferring technology, sending experts, and providing timely rice support in the context of Cuba facing many difficulties.

Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez presented Cuba's investment cooperation plans and interests, affirming that the Cuban Government welcomes, will fulfill its commitments and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises operating in Cuba, and promote cooperation activities between enterprises, organizations and localities of the two countries.

On this occasion, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong asked President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez to convey his warm greetings and regards to revolutionary leader Raul Castro, First Secretary and President of Cuba Diaz-Canel, and other leaders and people of Cuba. The General Secretary reiterated his invitation and looked forward to welcoming Comrade Raul Castro and Comrade First Secretary and President Diaz-Canel to visit Vietnam again soon.
