On May 16, K Hospital announced the first endoscopic surgery to treat gynecological cancer through the vagina in Vietnam. This technique marks an important step forward in the application of high technology in the treatment of gynecological cancer.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Binh - Deputy Director of K Hospital - said that female patient NTL (52 years old) has stage IA endometrial cancer.

The doctors decided to perform a transvaginal laparoscopic surgery (vNOTES laparoscopic surgery). The team, including Dr. Le Tri Chinh and his colleagues, performed a complete hysterectomy, two adnexa, and bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection for the patient.

"After surgery, the patient had absolutely no external scars, much less pain than other gynecological surgical methods, the patient recovered quickly and was discharged early after 3 days of surgery," Associate Professor Binh informed.

According to the Deputy Director of K Hospital, the initial success in implementing the vNOTES technique not only opens up more safe, minimally invasive surgical options for patients, but also marks a strong shift in the application of advanced techniques, integrating international treatment trends.

"We will continue to train and develop this technique to expand indications, bringing more optimal treatment opportunities for patients with gynecological cancers as well as benign gynecological diseases," Associate Professor Binh said.

Previously, at K Hospital, Dr. Le Tri Chinh and his team successfully applied the vNOTES technique in other benign gynecological surgeries such as: Surgery to remove ovarian tumors, total hysterectomy to treat large uterine fibroids...

Associate Professor Binh said that in the world , the technique of endoscopic surgery through the vagina, using the natural path to insert instruments into the abdomen without having to cut the abdominal wall, is applied in many developed countries.

This technique combines the advantages of laparoscopic surgery (clear images, delicate manipulation) and vaginal surgery without leaving external scars.

Initially, vNOTES technique was applied in the treatment of benign gynecological diseases: hysterectomy, adnexectomy (ovaries, fallopian tubes), and was later indicated for early-stage gynecological cancers.

"Surgery performed through the body's natural cavity, the vagina, helps reduce post-operative pain, reduces the risk of surgical site infection, helps patients recover quickly, allowing them to return to normal life and work sooner with better quality of life, reduces treatment costs, and especially ensures the highest efficiency in cancer treatment," Associate Professor Binh informed.
