Lao Cai has 1 candidate participating in international and regional Olympic competitions in 2025.

The 37 candidates selected to participate in this year's international and regional Olympiads have excelled over nearly 6,500 candidates in two rounds. Accordingly, 6 students were selected to participate in the International Mathematics Olympiad; 8 students participated in the Asian Physics Olympiad, 4 students participated in the International Chemistry Olympiad; 4 students participated in the International Biology Olympiad and 15 students participated in the Asia- Pacific Informatics Olympiad. The regional and international Olympiads usually take place in July and August. According to the Ministry's regulations, these 37 students are exempted from the high school graduation exam and can go straight to university.

Lao Cai is honored to have 1 candidate selected, Nguyen Huy Phong, grade 11, IT major, Lao Cai Provincial High School for the Gifted, to participate in the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad.
