The Lao government expects to attract at least 4.6 million tourists during Visit Laos Year 2024, of which more than 50% are expected to be international visitors, generating revenue of US$712 million.

Lao Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Suansavanh Viyaket said that the tourism promotion program for Visit Laos Year 2024 is determined to attract more foreign tourists to Laos as well as create jobs for people across the country and increase foreign exchange earnings.
To achieve this goal, the Lao Government will organize and widely promote the country's famous festivals such as: That Luang Festival in the capital Vientiane, Lao New Year Bun Pi May, Lent Festival in Luang Prabang province, Elephant Festival in Xayaboury province, Wat Phou Festival in Champasak province...
The Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism is also planning a series of other activities across the country to attract tourists, strengthening cooperation with travel companies and airlines to compile a list of suitable activities for tourists, and selecting a logo and theme to promote Visit Laos Year 2024.
According to Minister Suansavanh, to increase tourist attraction, the Ministry will also release the 2024 Laos Tourism calendar, as well as video clips and souvenirs; launch an advertising campaign in the media and on websites from September 2023.
According to data from the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, before the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, during Visit Laos Year 2018, the country attracted 4.1 million tourists, an increase of 8.2% compared to 2017.
In the first 4 months of 2023, Laos welcomed more than 1 million international tourists, an impressive growth compared to the 1.3 million tourists the country achieved in the whole of 2022. Of which, Vietnamese tourists ranked 2nd with 224,461 arrivals, just behind Thailand.
On the other hand, according to Lao press, the steady growth of Lao tourists to Vietnam is a positive sign for the tourism industry of both countries, and also a testament to the close relationship between the two countries.
