Improve the quality of education
In 2002, Mr. Duong was assigned to teach history at Huynh Man Dat High School for the Gifted and has been there ever since. With the motto of taking "good teaching - good learning" as the core, he has constantly improved his professional qualifications, actively innovated teaching methods towards developing students' capacity and qualities, in line with the requirements of educational reform.
In 2006, the school assigned him the task of training excellent students in history, so he searched for documents from many different sources. Thanks to his lively and not dry teaching style, historical events through his lectures became attractive stories; thereby affirming the fundamental and leading role of history in contributing to fostering patriotism in students.
Mr. Duong always incorporates the content of Ho Chi Minh's moral example and style into his lectures, contributing to promoting the study and following of Uncle Ho's ideology, morality and style, forming personality and ideals for students. Mr. Duong shared: "There are many methods to teach history; flexibly applying and combining methods well is the art of a teacher. Teaching history is not about trying to inculcate dry knowledge into students' heads, but about being close, sharing, imparting knowledge, helping them understand the lesson. What I appreciate most is always upholding professional pride and striving for that."
For Mr. Duong, history is a place to reflect great examples, especially the ideology, morality, and style of Ho Chi Minh, helping students form necessary qualities such as honesty, simplicity, impartiality, and a sense of responsibility. As the head of the history, geography, economic and legal education group, Mr. Duong advises the school's Board of Directors to organize teaching, review, and consolidate knowledge for the high school graduation exam for grade 12 students and organize professional training activities for teachers. The results of the high school graduation exam in history taught by him are always stable, higher than the average of the province and the whole country, and are in the top 3 units with the highest graduation rate in the province.
Student results - a measure of teachers
As for Mr. Duong, the quality of teaching every year always reaches 100% of students from average level and above; the rate of excellent students increased from 48.33% in the 2018-2019 school year to 86.11% in the 2024-2025 school year. The rate of high school graduates in history also increased from 63.64% to 100%.
In the work of training excellent students, Mr. Duong is always dedicated, practicing presentation skills, improving thinking ability, self-study ability and determination for the team. From the 2018-2019 school year to the 2024-2025 school year, he directly trained students to win 75 provincial prizes; 20 medals in the Olympic 30/4 excellent student competition; 10 prizes in the excellent student competition in the coastal and Northern Delta regions; 7 medals in the Southern Summer Camp competition; 20 prizes in the national excellent student selection competition at the high school level. This result contributed to raising the province's ranking in the Mekong Delta region from 9th in the 2018-2019 school year to 1st in the number of awards in the 2024-2025 school year.
As the head of the provincial high school history subject council from the 2018-2019 school year (now the Core Teachers Council), Mr. Duong chaired seminars and professional training to improve the quality of the subject and the work of fostering excellent students in the province; presided over the compilation of the exam structure for selecting excellent high school students at the provincial level in history. He was mobilized by the Ministry of Education and Training to participate in compiling and editing the question bank for the national high school exam and high school graduation exam from 2016 to present; supported 2 teachers to achieve the title of excellent teacher at the school and provincial levels.
Mr. Duong is one of the typical examples of the provincial education sector in the 2015 - 2020 and 2020 - 2025 periods; achieved outstanding achievements in the sector in 2022; was in the top 200 outstanding teachers nationwide in 2023 and was awarded a certificate of merit by the Ministry of Education and Training. He was awarded the title of Excellent Teacher by the President in 2023.
