Staying up all night to wrap banh chung to send to people in flooded areas

Ms. Doan Thi Hoa (from Ninh Phuoc commune, Khanh Hoa province, currently living in Trang Dai ward, Dong Nai province) has been sitting on "fire" these past days when witnessing the image of Ninh Phuoc countryside - where she was born and many other places in the South Central Coast and Central Highlands submerged in fierce floods. Ms. Hoa shared: "This year, I am nearly 50 years old but I have never witnessed my peaceful hometown having such fierce floods and so much damage."

Therefore, on the afternoon of November 22, after finishing her shift at Changshin Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Tan Trieu Ward, Dong Nai Province), Ms. Hoa went to Trang Dai Ward Cultural House with everyone to wash dong leaves, banana leaves and wrap banh chung and banh tet until morning to give to people facing difficulties in the flood.

Although not born in the Central region, Mr. Tran Van Son (living in Trang Dai ward) these days cannot help but feel sad about the pain and loss caused by the floods that the people in the Central region are suffering. He and many people in the neighborhood encouraged each other to donate necessities to send to the people for emergency support. Over the past few days, he has put aside many of his family's chores to participate in fundraising activities and prepare necessities to send to the flood-affected areas, launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Trang Dai ward.

Mr. Son shared: “I still remember clearly the memory of 4 years ago, when Dong Nai province was ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic, all activities were blocked. At that time, my family received a bag of rice, along with green vegetables, eggs, dried fish, and white salt from the people of the Central region sent in support. Now the people of the Central region are struggling in the fierce flood, the gratitude that the people of the Central region gave my family nearly 5 years ago seems to come flooding back, I really feel the pain of my people, I want to do something to share this great loss of my people”.

According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Trang Dai Ward, during the night of November 22 to the early morning of November 23, more than 300 banh chung and banh tet were wrapped and cooked by the people in the ward and loaded onto trucks to be quickly transported to the disaster-stricken areas. In addition, people also donated hundreds of boxes of instant noodles, rice, drinking water and other necessities. These goods were classified and packaged into gift packages for easy distribution when reaching people in the flood-stricken areas.

Support people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters

According to the Provincial Police, on the morning of November 22, the first Working Group of the Provincial Police, consisting of 16 officers and soldiers, directly coordinated with the Hoa Xuan Commune Police (Dak Lak Province) to cross the flood, bringing food, drinking water and necessities to the people in the flooded areas. Not only providing supplies, the officers and soldiers also directly participated in rescue and helping people in difficulty amid the rushing water. In particular, the officers and soldiers coordinated with local police to bring the elderly, the sick, women and children to safety. Many families were evacuated from the danger zone at night, when the floodwaters rose and the heavy rains continued. Although the roads were cut off and the floodwaters were flowing rapidly, the officers and soldiers all showed a spirit of resilience and responsibility: "Forgetting oneself for the country, serving the people".

Currently, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Nai province, the Red Cross Society, the Provincial Charity Association and many localities in the province are urgently organizing fundraising activities to support people in provinces and cities affected by natural disasters.

It is known that the area that the working group of Dong Nai Provincial Police has reached is a deep area of Hoa Xuan commune (Dak Lak province), where more than 23,000 households are being severely affected by the flood.

By the afternoon of November 22, in response to the urgent need to support people in flood-hit areas, Dong Nai Provincial Police organized a ceremony to support people in flood-hit areas of Dak Lak province with 115 officers and soldiers along with many machines, equipment and vehicles to help people. This is the second Working Group that Dong Nai Provincial Police has strengthened to help people in flood-hit areas of the Central region.

Captain Thai Ngo Hieu, an officer of the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police, said: After the departure ceremony on the afternoon of November 22, the working group of the Provincial Police arrived at Tuy Hoa Ward to support the people. Because some deeply flooded areas were gradually receding, the group was assigned to help people in Tuy Hoa Ward clean up their houses and roads, collect trees, objects and furniture swept away by the flood to stabilize their lives.

Here, from early morning, officers and soldiers of the Provincial Police started cleaning houses, collecting garbage and mud on the streets to ensure people's lives.

In addition, officers and soldiers of the Provincial Police transported necessities brought by the working group from Dong Nai to the local government to continue distributing to people suffering from flood damage in this area.
