Malaysian Football Federation may sue 7 naturalized players for fraud

(Dan Tri) - According to lawyer Nik Erman Nik Roseli, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has legal grounds to sue seven naturalized players who are involved in the case of falsifying documents.

Speaking to Sukan Sinar, lawyer Nik Erman said the group of players described themselves as having Malaysian blood to qualify for naturalization, but in reality did not meet the required conditions.

“Based on the details in the documents released by FIFA, the seven players admitted that they handed over the entire naturalization process to an unidentified representative or FAM employee,” he said.

If there is any act of falsifying documents, it comes from within FAM. So, the question of whether the player can sue FAM or not, the answer is yes. But the possibility of winning the lawsuit is not."

According to the lawyer, the players cannot be considered "innocent" because even FIFA's documents clearly state that they did not read, did not understand, and did not care about the naturalization process.

“Even after knowing that they were banned for 12 months, these seven players remained indifferent. Players cannot shirk their responsibility like that,” he added.

Lawyer Nik Erman said that if viewed from the opposite direction, FAM would have the right to sue the 7 naturalized players, because they "misrepresented themselves" as having Malaysian ancestry to receive citizenship.

“The players have represented themselves as being of Malaysian blood and eligible for Malaysian citizenship, when in fact they do not meet that condition,” he said.

The lawyer also suggested that FAM consider taking legal action against FAM brokers or representatives who acted as “middlemen” in the entire controversial naturalization process.

He cited facts in FIFA documents that the players claimed that all procedures were handed over entirely to unnamed FAM representatives, showing that legal responsibility lies not only with the players but also with the intermediaries involved.
