The more formal ceremony on May 6 will still be steeped in ancient tradition. In a break with tradition, King Charles and Queen Camilla will leave Buckingham Palace in a black, gold-plated, horse-drawn Diamond Jubilee State Coach built for Queen Elizabeth II's 60th anniversary.

The 2km route is slightly shorter than the one Queen Elizabeth has taken. The procession will pass Trafalgar Square, the statue of King Charles I and the Houses of Parliament before arriving for a religious service at 11am.
While King Charles wants to show the monarchy is still relevant in modern, multicultural Britain, he has said he plans to slim down the institution. The coronation is expected to reflect that with a shorter, less lavish ceremony than Queen Elizabeth II's three-hour coronation.
In an example of the modern nature of King Charles III's coronation, Buckingham Palace also unveiled a new emoji based on the St Edward's Crown, which will be presented to King Charles III at the coronation.
The icon will appear on Twitter when any hashtag – including #Coronation, #CoronationBigLunch and #TheBigHelpOut (referring to a volunteer activity) – is used.
In addition to the coronation, the three-day weekend event will also include a star-studded concert, volunteer activities, and traditional British Royal processions.
