Vietnam Space Center (VNSC), formerly the National Satellite Center under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), was established on September 16, 2011 under Decision No. 1611/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister as a key unit focusing on the development of space science and technology and related applications.
One of the important objectives of the Center is to implement, receive, manage, and operate the Vietnam Space Center project from Japan's ODA capital.

Right from the first days of its establishment, the Center has determined its vision to become a "National Space Center", and over the past 10 years has gradually developed and formed four main pillars: Space technology; Space applications; Space science; Training and dissemination of space knowledge.
The Center has identified the main objectives to implement Vietnam's Space Strategy to 2030 as: Carrying out the mission of developing "Made in Vietnam" satellites and participating in developing the "National Observation System using small satellites"; Exploiting LOTUSat-1 satellite images to serve socio- economic development and national security; Developing an excellent Space Science Center; Promoting public awareness of space, especially for the young generation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, congratulated the successes of VNSC after 10 years of development. VNSC is the youngest unit of VAST in terms of establishment time as well as average age of staff, and the novelty of modern style.
"Mentioning VNSC means mentioning the country's leading space science and technology research center with a long-term vision, a clear mission, always having the spirit of daring to think, daring to do and taking the lead in international cooperation activities, along with the enthusiasm and consensus of the staff", Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Tuan Anh affirmed.
Up to now, after 10 years, despite having overcome many challenges, the amount of work that VNSC has done is worthy of praise and encouragement.
At the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of VNSC, reviewed the process of realizing the "dream" that Vietnam will have a National Space Center over the past 10 years.

Associate Professor Pham Anh Tuan shared: "Actually, the "dream" was rekindled in 2006, after my first visit to US space research facilities, including the NASA Space Center in Houston, and then to Japan's Tsukuba Space Center."
Exactly 10 years ago today, on December 21, 2011, the President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology signed the Decision to invest in the Vietnam Space Center project, the largest science and technology project in Vietnam to date, and construction began on September 19, 2012 at Hoa Lac High-Tech Park. After that, the Center's facilities and staff were expanded and developed in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang. The Vietnam Space Center project will be fully completed in 2023.
"The "dream" and now the path to develop Vietnam's space space still has many difficulties and challenges. But just like Sogan "Liftoff your dream", the Vietnam Space Center is taking the first solid steps to continue realizing that dream and path, for Vietnam's space to fly up", said Associate Professor Pham Anh Tuan.
