Civil servants, public employees, and workers will enjoy a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025. The first day of Lunar New Year 2025 is January 29.
Lunar New Year holiday 2025 lasts 9 days
According to the official 2025 Lunar New Year holiday schedule approved by the Prime Minister, cadres, civil servants, public employees and employees of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations will have a holiday from Saturday, January 25 (December 26, Giap Thin year) to Sunday, February 2 (January 5, At Ty year).
This year's Lunar New Year holiday lasts 9 days, including 5 official Tet holidays and 4 weekend days as prescribed in the Labor Code.
Specifically, the 5 official Lunar New Year holidays are from Monday (January 27) to Friday (January 31). The 4 weekend days fall before and after the official holidays.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs encourages businesses to give employees leave according to the above schedule.
For businesses not included in the above categories, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs requires employers to decide to choose 1 of 3 Tet holiday options:
One is to take 1 day off at the end of the year of Giap Thin and 4 days off at the beginning of the year of At Ty.
Second is the last 2 days off of the year of Giap Thin and the first 3 days of the year of At Ty.
Third is the last 3 days off of the year of Giap Thin and the first 2 days of the year of At Ty.
At the same time, employers must notify employees of the Lunar New Year holiday plan 30 days in advance.
2025 has 22 holidays, Tet
In 2025, workers will have 22 days off, including 11 paid holidays and Tet and 11 days off adjacent to holidays and Tet.
11 days off according to the Labor Code include: New Year's Day 1 day (January 1); Lunar New Year 5 days; Victory Day 1 day (April 30); International Labor Day 1 day (May 1); National Day 2 days (September 2 and 1 day before or after); Hung King's Commemoration Day 1 day (March 10 of the lunar calendar).
11 consecutive days off for holidays and Tet include: 4 weekend days off for Lunar New Year; 2 weekend days off for Hung Kings' Commemoration Day; 3 days off for April 30 and May 1; 2 weekend days off for National Day.
* According to the lunar calendar, December this year has only 29 days, without the 30th day of Tet.
Notably, it will not be until 2033 that we will have a real 30th of December. That means for 8 consecutive years from 2025 to 2032, we will not have a real 30th of Tet.
* What lunar day is the beginning of spring 2025?
Lich Xuan is the beginning of a new year, the first solar term of the year. Normally, Lich Xuan will start in January, around February 4 or 5 of the solar calendar and end around February 18 or 19.
This year's Lich Xuan Day falls on February 4, 2025 (January 7).
