Vietnam Cooperative Alliance - 30 years of formation and development

To date, the country has about 121,000 cooperative groups, more than 30,000 cooperatives and 133 cooperative unions, attracting about 10 million members and workers.

After 30 years (October 29, 1993 - October 29, 2023) of formation and development, Vietnam Cooperative Alliance has affirmed its position and core role in the collective economy (KTTT) and cooperatives; striving to accompany, advise, and support the implementation of policies and laws, and protect the rights and legitimate interests of its members.

In 1993, with the approval of the Secretariat and the Government , the First National Congress established the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Council (October 29-30, 1993). In 2000, the Second National Congress decided to change the name of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Council to Vietnam Cooperative Alliance.

The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance has the function of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of its members; propagating and disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on collective economy and cooperatives; proposing and recommending participation in the development of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and programs and projects related to the development of collective economy and cooperatives.

At the same time, advise and support the implementation of public services and economic activities serving the development of collective economy and cooperatives, promote the building of harmonious and sustainable labor relations in cooperatives, cooperative unions, and cooperative groups; gather, link, and guide members to cooperate, help each other develop together, and join hands to build the sustainable development of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance.

Over 30 years of formation and development, the activities of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance have been gradually innovated, closely following the functions and tasks to organize activities, constantly improving efficiency, gradually meeting the requirements of cooperatives and members.

In particular, it is prominent to actively advise the Party and the State in contributing to improving the environment and laws for cooperatives to operate, building programs and projects to support cooperative development, coordinating propaganda and dissemination of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies on collective economy and cooperatives; building new models and typical cooperatives; organizing training activities and fostering human resources for the Federation of Cooperatives at all levels and cooperatives to meet new requirements;...

Muoi Hai Safe Vegetable Cooperative (Long Khe commune, Can Duoc district, Long An province) is one of the effective cooperatives in the province.

The apparatus of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance system is increasingly consolidated and developed. The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance is a member of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), the World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME); a member of the Asia-Pacific Cooperative Alliance (ICA-AP), the International Fisheries Cooperative Alliance and together with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), it is a tripartite partner of the International Labor Organization (ILO) with the responsibility of representing employers in the collective economy and cooperatives in Vietnam; it has cooperative relations with 125 international organizations and cooperative representative organizations in countries around the world.

In the country, the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance is a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and a member of the Central Steering Committee for Innovation and Development of Collective Economy and Cooperatives. The 63 provincial and municipal Cooperative Alliances are members of the Steering Committee for Innovation and Development of Collective Economy and Cooperatives of the provinces and cities.

With its contributions to the development of the collective economy and cooperatives, making an important contribution to the cause of national construction and defense, the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance system has been awarded many forms and noble titles by the Party, State and Government such as the First Class Labor Medal (2005 and 2019), Ho Chi Minh Medal (2007), Third Class Independence Medal (2009), Third Class Labor Medal (2019), Second Class Independence Medal (2020), Third Class Labor Medal (2022), Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister (2021), Emulation Flag of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (2021), many provincial and municipal Cooperative Alliances, member cooperatives, collectives and individuals have been awarded Medals of various ranks, Emulation Flags of the Government, Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister, Certificates of Merit from ministries, branches, People's Committees of provinces and cities and other emulation titles./.
