At the workshop "Pioneering Dual Transformation for a Greener Vietnam", organized by Dau Tu newspaper on November 12, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tho - Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment ( Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ), said that we are in the 4th Industrial Revolution and moving to the 5th Industrial Revolution (green industry). Vietnam is being greatly influenced by the global trade and investment game, so it must have a perspective and approach that does not depend on the term of the US president. "Can Mr. Trump change or reverse the requirement for global emission reduction commitments and global sustainable development commitments? I affirm that it is not," Mr. Tho emphasized at the discussion session, regarding the question "in the context of the global political economy that is forecast to have many fluctuations, will the commitments on emissions and sustainable development be changed or reversed, especially when the re-elected president Donald Trump is not a believer in climate change".

According to this person, the European Union has issued mandatory regulations on sustainability reporting for all listed companies from January 2023; from June 2024, EU member states will officially institutionalize and apply this regulation. “Vietnam is aiming to achieve a trade turnover of 1,000 billion USD and become one of the 20 countries with the largest trade scale in the world , and at the same time be in the top 20 countries with the largest emission reductions globally. Requirements on emission reduction and sustainability reporting require our entire supply chain and system to comply. If we fail to do so, we will be eliminated from the trade and investment game,” said Mr. Tho. According to Mr. Tho, Trump supporters like Elon Musk are still promoting electric vehicles, while the largest companies in the US such as Apple, Intel... have all introduced policies related to net zero emissions. He believes that 2026 will be the time for change to meet the requirements of green development, digitalization and global sustainability. “The current pressure on green transformation and digitalization is also an opportunity for us to fulfill our commitments and meet global standards on emissions. If the transformation is slow, the costs will be high and our competitiveness will decrease. Therefore, it is necessary to have a clear roadmap and comply with global standards, suitable for the target market we are aiming for,” Mr. Tho noted. Sharing at the discussion session, Ms. Le Thi Hong Na, Director of Sustainable Development Strategy, Phuc Khang Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, said that when the company launched an ESG strategy, specific activities were clearly defined to target major environmental, social and governance goals. ESG also helps stakeholders understand how the business manages risks and opportunities in these three aspects. According to Ms. Le Minh Trang, Deputy Director of Retail Research Department of NielsenIQ Vietnam Co., Ltd. (NIQ), the transition to green production helps businesses reduce long-term costs by optimizing energy and raw materials and reducing waste, thereby improving profit margins. Business representatives said that green consumption trends are creating great pressure, forcing businesses to quickly change and adapt. From optimizing production processes, managing supply chains to using new technologies, businesses not only have to comply with legal requirements but also have to meet consumers' increasing expectations for a sustainable future. This opens up great opportunities for businesses that are at the forefront of the transition to a green business model, while helping them maintain their competitive position in the market. The green consumer market is expected to continue to grow strongly until 2030 and beyond, with sustainable solutions and advanced technologies increasingly dominating global trends.
