Cao Bang The landscape around Ban Gioc waterfall is currently "like an empty lot" and "desolate" due to the continued lack of water, raising concerns that the situation will last until April 30.
On the afternoon of April 26, Mr. An, a local resident, said that the national tourist area of Ban Gioc waterfall is no different than it was a week ago. Both the main waterfall area located on the Vietnam-China border and the smaller waterfall on the Vietnamese side have very little water. He commented that the landscape looks quite "desolate" and "like an empty lot".

A local leader said that hydropower plants still release water every day from 9:30 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. After that, the plants store water so the waterfall dries up again. The Cao Bang Department of Industry and Trade has directed the three hydropower plants Thoong Got, Thoong Cot 2 and Ban Ra to release water from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from April 29 to May 3.
"The current situation at the waterfall is no different from a week ago and is likely to last. This could affect the tourism image of Cao Bang. I have heard many tourists complain," this person said. According to the weather forecast, there will be no rain in the Cao Bang area during the upcoming holiday.
Every year, there is a water shortage from late November to early May of the following year, but this year the situation is worse. According to this leader, the beauty of Ban Gioc waterfall does not depend entirely on nature but is also related to the operation of factories. Before the hydroelectric plants appeared, the water flow from upstream still created "basically acceptable" waterfalls.
