(CLO) A female teacher in her 40s accused of stabbing an 8-year-old student to death at an elementary school in the South Korean city of Daejeon told police that she committed the crime because she felt "frustrated" after being expelled from the classroom.

In her testimony, the teacher said that after returning to work just three days later, she felt extremely upset when a colleague prevented her from teaching.

“I felt bad just three days after returning to work,” she told police. These feelings were pent up and led to the crime.

The teacher said that, after feeling frustrated, she bought a gun before returning to school on the day of the attack. The reason she chose this extreme action was because she wanted to "die with a child".

She waited for the students to leave the classroom and targeted the last girl to leave. "I told the last child to leave that I would give her a book and took her to the audio-visual room, where I strangled and stabbed her," she testified.

Police said the suspect had been treated for depression since 2018 and had contemplated suicide during a six-month sick leave. However, she decided to return to work early and carried out the attack. After stabbing the girl, she stabbed herself and is currently being treated in hospital.

Police also said the teacher had a history of aggressive behavior, including twisting another teacher's arm last week when she asked if something was wrong, but no reports were filed with authorities about the incident.

Police are currently investigating and have asked the National Forensic Service to perform an autopsy on the girl to determine the exact cause of death.
