VAR referee class 4 enters final training phase with practical exercises on the field

On the morning of May 26, at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, 19 referees and assistant referees officially entered the third training phase, taking place from May 26 to May 31.

This is the on-field practice phase in unofficial matches of the 4th VAR training course. In this decisive training phase, students will go through 6 consecutive days of study, practicing on the field with realistic simulation situations, from short exercises to full 90-minute matches.

In addition to the instructors of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Referee Board who directly instruct, FIFA instructors will monitor and evaluate the learning quality of each referee through daily video recording data, before deciding to grant a certificate to officiate at matches with VAR.

The list of 19 referees participating includes 5 National Championship assistants, 6 National First Division referees and 8 non-professional referees. This is the second time that the VFF Referee Board has coordinated with VPF Company to train a combination of professional and non-professional referees and assistant referees, aiming to prepare the next generation, ensuring the continuous and stable application and operation of VAR.

In this decisive training phase, students will undergo 6 days of continuous study and practice on the field.

After three previous successful training courses, 36 Vietnamese referees and assistant referees have been granted VAR certificates. A number of qualified non-professional referees have also been assigned to work as VAR assistant referees (AVARs) in matches of the 2024/25 national professional football season, contributing to improving the quality of refereeing in domestic tournaments.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc - General Director of VPF Company said that after 3 seasons of application in Vietnam, VAR has shown its importance in supporting the main referee in making decisions. In this year's season, some matches in the National First Division have also put VAR into use.
