Floods on rivers rise rapidly, people need to be vigilant

Dak Lak Province Hydrometeorological Station recommends that water levels on rivers and streams across the province are very high, with rapid water flow. People should be extremely careful when participating in traffic and activities near spillways, along rivers and streams, and in mountainous terrain.

Specifically, in the past 10 hours, the eastern part of Dak Lak province had very heavy rain, the rainfall from 7:00 p.m. on November 18 to 10:00 a.m. on November 19 was generally 200 - 550 mm, some places were larger such as Son Thanh: more than 810 mm, Hoa Dong: 742.7 mm, Hoa My Tay: 736.6 mm. The western part of the province had moderate rain, heavy rain, the rainfall was generally 50 - 100 mm, some places were larger than 100 mm.

It is forecasted that from now until November 21, the eastern region of the province (including the old M'Drắk district) will continue to have heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain, with total rainfall ranging from 100 - 200 mm, some places will have more than 300 mm.

In the West, there will be rain, moderate rain, heavy rain in some places, total rainfall 10 - 30 mm, in some places greater than 50 mm.

Regarding the flood situation, currently on the Serepok River, the water level at 10:00 a.m. at the stations: Krong Buk above alert 1 is 0.31 m, Giang Son station - Krong Ana river above alert 2 is 0.08 m, Ban Don below alert 2 is 0.6 m.

On the Ba River, the water level fluctuates according to the regulation of hydropower and irrigation reservoirs. The water level at 10:00 a.m. at Cung Son station, above alert level 3, was 3.01 m, and at Phu Lam, below alert level 3, it was 0.73 m. On the Ban Thach River, at Hoa My Tay station, it reached alert level 3.

In the next 6 - 12 hours, floods on Ky Lo, Tam Giang rivers and the downstream of Ba river will continue to rise, flood peaks at stations: Phu Lam will reach above alert level 3 by 1.5 - 2.5 m, Ha Bang station will reach 13.4 m near the historical flood in 2009 (13.47 m), at Xuan Quang station will reach above alert level 3 by 1 - 2 m, at Cung Son station will reach above alert level 3 by 3.5 - 4.5 m.

On Ban Thach River, the water level is from alert level 3 to above alert level 3 by 1.6 m. On Serepok River basin, flood water level continues to rise and fluctuate at high level, at Ban Don station it is likely to reach approximately alert level 2 and Giang Son station fluctuates at level above alert level 2 by 0.2 - 0.4 m.

The specialized agency warned that communes in the downstream of Ky Lo, Ban Thach, Ba and Tam Giang rivers are flooded on a large scale. There is a risk of flash floods and landslides in steep terrain, flooding in residential areas, some roads in urban areas; and separation of inter-commune and inter-village roads.

On November 19, the Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee issued an urgent dispatch on focusing on responding to and promptly overcoming the consequences of floods, landslides, and flash floods in the province, in which he directed and gave top priority to ensuring the safety of people's lives. The province also requested agencies, units, and localities to support people and remind people to save phone batteries to stay in touch in all situations.
