Gia Lai Provincial Armed Forces proactively respond to natural disasters

(GLO)- To improve the effectiveness of natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue work during this year's storm season, the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command has set out the motto of "proactive prevention, timely response, urgent and effective remediation; taking prevention as the main focus", ensuring readiness to handle all situations.

Early prevention, from afar

As the standing agency of the Provincial Civil Defense Command (PTDS) and a member of the Command Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control - Search and Rescue (PCTT-TKCN), the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command proactively deploys PCTT-TKCN measures early and from a distance.

In particular, the Provincial Military Command coordinates with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to advise on perfecting the Command Committees according to the prescribed structure; develop and supplement the PCTT-TKCN plan. Based on the plan and plan, the staff unit assigns specific responsibilities to each member of the Command Committee, associated with the functions and tasks of each sector and field in directing and operating when a situation occurs.

Colonel Nguyen The Vinh, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, said: The Provincial Military Command has strictly followed the direction of the provincial leaders, perfected the PCTT-TKCN sub-units and PCTT-TKCN assault platoons of the Provincial Military Command as well as agencies and units in the Provincial Armed Forces. At the same time, the unit organized drills of the plans, ready to mobilize when there are situations in key areas of storms and floods; directed the Regional Defense Command and the Commune Military Command to perfect the PCTT-TKCN force after implementing the 2-level local government model. In addition, the Provincial Military Command developed scenarios for evacuating people at each level and organized training and trial operations.

Along with the development of plans, training and coaching of forces were also carried out synchronously. Units strengthened the education of officers and soldiers on awareness and responsibility in supporting people in PCTT-TKCN; checked the mobility and ensured the "4 on-site" motto, not to be passive or surprised.

Colonel To Bac - Commander of the An Nhon Dong Area 6 Defense Command - said: "The unit coordinates with communes and wards to proactively deploy response work, especially surveying and making a list of key areas vulnerable to natural disasters. From there, build a plan to mobilize reasonable forces and means, minimizing damage caused by natural disasters."

The Head of the Provincial Military Command also regularly inspects the preservation and maintenance of weapons and technical equipment at units, ensuring that vehicles are always in good condition and ready to perform PCTT-TKCN tasks. In addition, the Provincial Military Command maintains a 24/7 hotline 112 to receive and promptly process information.

Be proactive in every situation

To proactively prevent and control storms during the rainy and stormy season, the Provincial Military Command has assigned the Provincial Border Guard Command to grasp weather forecasts and develop realistic plans suitable to the tasks of each unit.

For example, in response to storm No. 10 (storm Bualoi), the provincial Border Guard has informed and propagated to vessels operating at sea the location, direction of movement and developments of the storm so that they can proactively avoid, escape or not enter the dangerous area. The unit has called and guided 504 vessels to escape the dangerous area and 5,206 vessels to shore and anchor safely. At the same time, the unit fired storm warning flares to keep fishermen informed.

In addition, the Border Guard units in the province also maintain 17 squads with 334 officers and soldiers along with rescue vehicles and equipment on standby, ready to participate in PCTT-TKCN. In particular, the Border Guard forces also coordinate with localities to support people in reinforcing and tying aquaculture cages to ensure safety against storms.

Colonel Tran Tien Hai - Deputy Commander of the Provincial Military Command, Commander of the Provincial Border Guard Command - affirmed: "The Provincial Border Guard maintains the activities of the PCTT-TKCN force from the provincial to grassroots levels; carefully prepares human resources, means, equipment, and is ready to effectively respond to all unusual weather developments, minimizing damage to people and property when natural disasters occur."

In addition, the provincial Border Guard proactively develops a tight plan to respond to situations arising during the rainy and stormy season, which is an urgent requirement to minimize damage.

Colonel Nguyen The Vinh, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, emphasized: "Up to now, agencies and units in the provincial military have prepared well in terms of human resources, means, and equipment, ready to effectively respond to all unusual weather developments, implementing the motto "3 before, 4 on the spot", contributing to minimizing damage caused by natural disasters."
