"Air Deathmatch" is the first film to recreate (in a fictionalized way) the 1978 hijacking in the skies over Vietnam. The incident lasted 52 minutes full of terror and tension, with clashes using knives, guns and grenades, causing serious injuries to the flight crew. When made into a film, audiences commented that it was "as tense and thrilling as a Hollywood movie."
To recreate the confrontation realistically, the DC-4 plane was built almost to a 1:1 scale for realism. The model is relatively similar in color, style, interior, cabin, dashboard... some other details are borrowed from the real plane. The aisle between the rows of seats is slightly wider than in reality to serve the filming purpose.
The most special thing about the model is that it can be separated into parts and rotated left and right to recreate the gliding scenes. The crew and director Ham Tran requested that the model recreate the mechanical shaking scene without relying on special effects or graphics.

After considering many options, the crew decided to use a rotating shaft system. "When placing the plane model in the middle of the shaft, there are gears so that the plane can shake according to the gear lift. In addition, 10 people are needed standing outside to support pushing, pulling, and rotating the plane body to perform the required scenes," said a representative of the Galaxy publisher.
Director Ham Tran recalled: “When the crew tested a scene where the plane tilted to one side, the crew did not dare to shake the plane too much, for fear that it would be difficult to return it to a balanced position. From 30 degrees, they gradually increased the amplitude until 60 degrees was the highest.”

Sharing with reporters of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper, the director shared that the budget for the model was up to 2 billion VND.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Nam Chung - Director of the People's Public Security Cinema said that these scenes are quite risky and need to be carefully calculated. "When filming, there is not only the plane on the lift but also the actors, cameramen, and crew of up to 50 or 60 people. If there is even a small problem, it is extremely dangerous," Mr. Tran Nam Chung shared.
As of the afternoon of September 30, according to Box Office Vietnam, the film has earned 174 billion VND./.
