Affirming the strong attraction of the coastal city of Da Nang and the brilliant fireworks nights on the Han River, more than 10,000 seats in the grandstand on the opening night of DIFF 2025 were filled.
Audiences were delighted to welcome a multi-sensory art feast of music , light and AR technology with unique and unprecedented experiences.
In particular, the dramatic "encounter" between the home team Da Nang (Vietnam 1) and the reigning champion Joho Pyro (Finland) successfully created a brilliant Asian-European cultural reunion in the sky.
Deserving to be the opening team for the biggest DIFF season in history, the host team Da Nang surprised thousands of spectators and made them burst with pride with a completely new, explosive comeback and skillful fireworks techniques.
For more than 20 minutes, more than 5,000 fireworks simultaneously sublimated, blending with music into a magnificent symphony of light, sending a spirited greeting to the people and tourists.
The four performance chapters: blending, honoring, integrating, pioneering and glory recounted the journey of Vietnamese culture reaching the world . From the effects of sparkling rain fireworks, soft color-changing fireworks to the waterfall fireworks, simultaneous explosions like surging waves, the audience seemed to be caught up in the flow of emotions from deep to explosive.
Opening with fireworks effects programmed precisely to the second to international music: "Bonjour Vietnam", "Titanium", "Top of the Rock"..., the performance contributed to painting a vibrant, integrated and constantly developing city.
Then, moving on to the next chapter, the beloved image of the country and flags appeared on the background music of "City of Light" and "Glory", making the audience admire.
The emotional climax is when the fireworks create the symbol of Ngu Hanh Son appearing in the night sky, blending with the ocean waves, as if sending a message of connection and identity of the city by the ocean.
Each fireworks show is a slice of depth from traditional identity to the aspiration to reach out to the world, from national pride to a dynamic spirit of innovation.
Da Nang team once again demonstrated its role as a “storyteller with light”, affirming its position as a city of creativity, integration and connection on the international festival map.
Having followed the festival for many years, Ha Linh, residing in Da Nang city, shared that the opening of the DIFF 2025 season could not be more wonderful.
"As a Da Nang native, I was very touched and proud to witness the performance of the host team. Every year, my family and I hunt for tickets to go to the stands to enjoy the festival atmosphere, but this year is the year that impressed me the most. This is the best performance of the Da Nang team," Ha Linh added.
In contrast to the bright, warm and magnificent performance of the host team from the tropics, the “Nordic Lights” performance of the Finnish team brought a completely different atmosphere: deep and intense like the Nordic spirit itself.
Opening with fiery pop-rock melodies like Diamond Eyes, Liar, Heroes Are Calling... immediately drew the audience into the emotional flow of the story of a nation living in the middle of the vast, icy sea, from thousands of small islands. The first bursts of fireworks were like waves, then suddenly calmed down and became poignant.
Water cannons, the “secret weapon” that made Finland win at DIFF last year, continue to be exploited creatively. From the surface of the Han River, the cannons seem to rise from the water, glide gently, then suddenly erupt violently like waves crashing against the cliffs. The light effects move gracefully like undercurrents, fiercely recalling the harsh survival journey of the people on the remote island.
Increasing the drama, the Finnish team switched to a series of high-altitude artillery shells. The whole sky lit up with bright green, purple, and pink fireworks that flashed like auroras.
In particular, the Vietnamese audience could not help but exclaim with delight when hearing "Bong Van Hoa" and "Vu Co Co Bay" resounding in the middle of the performance. The fan-shaped fireworks clusters, swirling like flying storks, brought a magical moment of intersection between two seemingly unfamiliar cultures.
Besides the intense competition of light and sound from the competing teams, the audience also enjoyed an unprecedented unique artistic space.
For the first time at a fireworks festival, large-scale outdoor AR technology is available via the Sun Paradise Land application. Not only integrating vivid graphic effects on each paper ticket, this AR experience also extends to the entire poetic Han River space.
The Sky AR project, the outdoor virtual reality system of DIFF 2025, has a "huge" scale with a coverage of up to 600,000m² and nearly 10 million pixels. This is the largest outdoor AR system ever applied to a cultural-tourism event in Vietnam.
In particular, each graphic effect is "tailor-made" according to each theme of the competition nights, creating artistic, vivid and highly personalized visual performances.
With just a phone in hand, tourists can admire the Cham towers, inspired by the world's largest Cham Sculpture Museum in Da Nang, which is preserving more than 2,000 artifacts bearing ancient cultural imprints amidst modern life.
Pointing the phone up high, the audience can also admire the graceful and mysterious Cham dances. The image of the Whale swimming in the night sky of Da Nang, carrying the belief of favorable weather and safe fishing of the residents of the Central Coast, makes many tourists excited.
