The quintessence of Ba Den mountain region
These days, when visiting the custard apple gardens around the foot of Ba Den Mountain, it is not difficult to see the image of people meticulously taking care of the custard apple gardens to harvest them on the occasion of the full moon of April (April 15th of the lunar calendar) - Buddha's birthday, one of the major holidays of Buddhism.
According to local people, custard apples are grown in many places across the country. However, in Tay Ninh , especially the area around the foot of Ba Den Mountain, thanks to the special climate and soil, the days are sunny but not too harsh, the nights are long and the low temperatures and morning dew create stimulation, promoting custard apples to flower and bear fruit all year round.
Minh Trung Agricultural Service Cooperative is one of the large-scale cooperatives in custard apple production in Tay Ninh. Currently, the cooperative has a custard apple growing area of over 600 hectares. Thanks to production according to safety standards, over the years, custard apples of Minh Trung Cooperative have always had stable output and have been exported abroad, leading in the field of custard apple production locally.
Proof is that fresh custard apples of Minh Trung Cooperative have been recognized by Tay Ninh province as 4-star OCOP.
Off-season custard apple, favorable output
Mr. Le Minh Trung, Director of Minh Trung Agricultural Service Cooperative, said that in order to have custard apples to serve the great Buddhist festival, the Cooperative has planned for members to mobilize workers to pick leaves, prune branches and take care of the trees according to the process so that the trees can be harvested on the full moon day of April (April 15th of the lunar calendar).
“One advantage is that in addition to hundreds of hectares of custard apples, Minh Trung Cooperative also has close links with a number of other cooperatives and cooperative groups in the area, so it always has the initiative in sourcing goods. The Cooperative plans to operate at full capacity to promptly serve customers both inside and outside the province during the great Buddhist festival,” said Mr. Le Minh Trung.
Mr. Ha Thanh Tung, Director of the Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Services Center of Tay Ninh province, added that the whole province has nearly 6,000 hectares of custard apples. For a long time, the custard apple gardens planted by people around the foot of Ba Den mountain have been famous for their large fruit, firm flesh and very special delicious taste.
In recent years, due to the increasing demand of the market for clean products, the Center regularly coordinates with functional units to guide farmers and enterprises growing custard apples to implement cultivation according to VietGAP process. Since then, the production level of the people has been increasingly improved, most of the local gardens have performed well from the care stage, processing off-season flowering...
In particular, Ba Den custard apple products have been granted a certificate of geographical indication registration and a trademark certificate by the Intellectual Property Office. Currently, Ba Den custard apple specialties of Tay Ninh are consumed in large markets and supermarkets in all provinces and cities across the country and exported.
Mr. Ha Thanh Tung added that, in addition to focusing on cultivation, to ensure food safety for consumers, eliminate product groups that still contain harmful chemicals and toxins; warn, prevent and stop food safety incidents before products are distributed to the market, the agricultural sector of Tay Ninh province regularly organizes food safety quality monitoring for custard apple products at production and business establishments.
