The province currently has 4 provincial hospitals, 11 district health centers and more than 770 private medical and pharmaceutical establishments. Mr. Hoang Xuan Truong, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: Determining drug quality control and counterfeit drug prevention as a key task, directly related to people's health and lives, in the past time, the department has directed its affiliated units to strengthen inspection and examination of drug trading, distribution and use establishments in the area. In particular, focusing on checking the origin, storage conditions of drugs and implementation of regulations on prescription and sale of prescription drugs.

Since the beginning of 2025, the interdisciplinary inspection team of the Department of Health has inspected 27 private medical and pharmaceutical establishments, discovered and punished 5 establishments for violations, and suspended 3 establishments for 18 months. The main violations include the establishment not being granted an operating license; the establishment not complying with good retail drug practices; mixing non-medicinal products with drugs...

During the inspection, the authorities have increased propaganda to pharmacies, medical facilities and people on how to identify fake and poor quality drugs. Pharmacist Vu Truc Linh, owner of Van Tam An Pharmacy (Chi Lang Ward, Lang Son City) said: Every year, with the propaganda and guidance of the inspection team, the facility always complies with the provisions of the law on pharmaceutical business. We only import drugs from genuine distribution companies, with full invoices, documents and legal circulation licenses. We also regularly update warnings from the Drug Administration and the Department of Health about drugs at risk of being counterfeited or recalled from the market, to proactively review and carefully check packaging, anti-counterfeit stamps, barcodes to trace the origin... to detect unusual signs, avoiding importing fake and poor quality drugs.

On April 23, 2025, the Department of Health issued Document No. 1236 "Warning about counterfeit drugs, drugs illegally circulating on the market; strengthening inspection and control of the quality and origin of traditional medicines". In which, it requires affiliated units to widely notify businesses and drug users not to trade, sell, or use counterfeit products or products not on the list of drugs registered for circulation by the Ministry of Health ; requiring medical examination and treatment facilities to review the drug purchase and supply process in the past.

Together with the health sector, the Market Management Department (MMD) has issued a thematic plan on compliance with legal regulations for pharmaceutical businesses in the province in 2025, focusing on tracing the origin and controlling the route of drugs. Mr. Dang Van Ngoc, Head of the MRD, informed: With the goal of not allowing counterfeit drugs to circulate illegally in the province, the department has directed its affiliated units to deploy professional measures, promptly detect, inspect and strictly handle cases of counterfeit drug trading, intellectual property violations... At the same time, it propagates to raise legal awareness for organizations and individuals trading in pharmaceuticals.

Accordingly, from the beginning of 2025 to present, the Market Management Teams have been monitoring, inspecting and propagating, organizing 127 establishments trading in medicines, foods and pharmaceuticals to sign commitments on compliance with regulations on origin of goods, invoices, documents and product labels. Through inspection and supervision, no establishments producing or trading in counterfeit medicines or health protection foods have been detected.

Buying fake and poor quality drugs not only causes economic losses but also directly threatens people's health and lives. Therefore, the health sector recommends that people need to raise awareness in choosing and using drugs, only buy drugs at reputable establishments, absolutely do not buy drugs on social networks, drugs of unknown origin. From there, contribute to the authorities to gradually establish a solid control barrier, protect the health of themselves and their loved ones.
