Specifically, Meta will pay up to $5,000 to famous TikTokers in the US when they join Facebook and Instagram. This unique reward program requires users to post at least 20 Reels on Facebook and 10 Reels on Instagram each month, with the condition that the videos must be original content, never shared on other platforms.
Although not directly mentioning TikTok, this move by Meta is seen as a strategy to take advantage of the instability of its competitor. With 170 million users in the US, TikTok is considered a 'fertile ground' for content creators to generate income. If this platform is banned, they will need to find a new platform, and Meta is welcoming them with open arms.
This isn’t the first time Meta has taken a page from TikTok. The company recently launched its Edits video editing app, similar to ByteDance’s CapCut, and it has integrated a feature that allows direct links to videos, similar to TikTok Shop. Instagram has also changed its post display from square to rectangular, taking inspiration from its rival.
However, copying TikTok has also caused a lot of controversy. Many Instagram users expressed dissatisfaction with the new interface, forcing Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, to apologize for not announcing it in advance.
